Subject: A little piece of home

I grew up in Port Huron Michigan....right on the shores of Lake Huron, and a stones throw away from Canada. The bridge that links the US to Canada is called the Blue Water Bridge. It is a majestic bridge....the St. Clair River meets Lake Huron underneath the bridge. Growing up, we were always going to the park near the bridge,my dad and I would eat coney dogs and watch the freighters go by. I still go to that park when I have doctors appointments in town. The river just kind of lulls you into a relaxed state. There are benches all along the boardwalk so you can sit right at the river. It is beautiful, and I have so many fond memories of that area growing up.

Last week, our clinical chemist presented me with a proof of an aerial shot of the Blue Water Bridge. He is a pilot, and as a hobby and a second business, he takes aerial shots of different surroundings. This picture he entitled "Blue Water Bridge Under the Clouds". I immediately asked him if he would make me a copy of it. I told him about my memories of the bridge, and of my dad and I and he said that we could strike up a bargain.

Well today, he walked into the lab with a framed 18X24 picture of the Blue Water Bridge for me to have. He said that he was so touched that I was so moved by his picture, that he blew it up for me and gave it to me. I nearly cried when I saw it.

So I hung it up in my living room....and I can look at it whenever I am feeling homesick. It's funny, I've lived in the Lapeer area longer than I did in Port Huron, but Port Huron will always be home to me.

It was a very special surprise from a very special man.

Love, Mikki
