Guilt will eat you alive if you let it. I think the key to dealing with guilt is forgiveness. Forgiving yourself mainly. We all make mistakes that we regret, and we can either forgive ourselves and learn from it, or wallow in the guilt that will ultimately make us sick. People with depression I think are prone to guilt. We think that everything that is wrong in the world is our fault. I dump my guilt on my priest...that makes me feel better, for I haven't learned to forgive myself yet. Hopefully, someday I will.
