Subject: Temporary SC Shelter perched on craggy clifftop...

Suggest that we spread our groundsheets, pitch the tents and put on the billy-can here, whilst someone finds us warmer permanent board and lodgings.

Anyone know why Ed decided to pull out of the SC, as opposed to introducing registration?

Hello!
How big is the tent and do we need sleeping bags?

The demise of the SC is a sad tale. Suffice to say Kitty is an angel send down to dwell amongst us. But some things no-one, not even an angel, should be expected to put up with. We are in her debt. I remember the very first LI site. It was great for its time but when Kitty came along it was wonderful. We will rise again!

Anyone know who is discussing with Ed about taking over the site?

A real shame that the plug has been pulled, albeit if temporarily. Apart from the recent issues on the board from a couple of weeks ago that caused Ed to consider registration, did anything else happen "off board" that caused her to feel it was more trouble than it was worth?

If it did, then I hope the culprit has the good sense to keep his head down.

I see the old site has finally gone overnight. Well done whoever you are.

There is indeed an unpleasant side to the disappearance of the SC. It really is up to 'The Ed' to make the facts known if she wants to. Speculation is probably unhelpful but all our sympathies should undoubtedly be with her.

It is a damn shame that the SC has gone, I often said that I had no real affiliation with any of the boards but that was a lie it seems. Who ever is thinking of taking up the london-irish.co.uk site would have to be a real 'core' person to the Sunbury Centre, but I've no idea who that would be cos it would be a big job to replace the site that was there.

It is also a crying shame that we're back on Voy messageboards (my tent leaks and smells fusty, and I don't have enough pegs) ... as they are 'orrible. If there wasn't someone setting up a new SC (assuming that it isn't just talk) then I'd have suggested we find a better temporary home.

Dom, you appear to

1. Have the requisite IT skills and knowledge
2 Be a LI fan
3 Have a GSOH, albeit a weird musical taste.

How about it?

Hold your horses, Shawshank......

Dom, if you want to set up a temporary messageboard to replace this one I really won't be remotely offended. I don't have anything to do with the website anymore and, to be honest, I can't remember the admin passwords to this forum so if anything libellous happens I have no control!!! As I recall I opted for Voy out of desperation when the SC went down last year and I had to find something pronto. Very little thought went into it other than "what can I get, and quickly".

If you know of any other messageboards you want to use please don't let me stop you. It aint my baby anymore - over to you, mate!

I've had confirmation that the earlier offer to re-do the SC was a genuine one, so someone will, at some point, take over. Until then - go for it, mate!

But remember - Gabriel likes his messages in flat format rather than threaded, so be warned.....

PS - If you want to link to the Flutey page, or want to revamp it (it's not exactly exciting!), then I'm happy for you to hack about on the server. So long as I have no involvement other than doing the Flutey fax every month I'm a happy bunny. I've had a couple of emails from Steve and he seems happy with the solution to the sponsorship issue, so go ahead and make it look lovely if you want! The domain name is at your service.

PPS - don't, whatever you do, upload any word documents or Computer Dave will rip my head off. He hates microsoft with a vengeance!

Honestly. You boys!

Cath,

I'm glad to hear that the new 'owners' are genuine, I was kind of suggesting that they'll have a job on their hands and it isn't something I could even think about doing for several reasons, but one of those reasons being that I'd never consider myself 'core' to the SC (mainly cos I don't know the regulars personally). And besides I'd make it too techy for the regulars like Gabriel and scare them off with avatars.

I think your flutey centre page will do just fine and the Voy forums, although fusty and leaky will probably do until someone comes to rescue us from this craggy hillside. (By the way, have you thought about what that domain name might be worth - perhaps the club would be interested in it since a new sunbury centre could always get a new domain. I ran a quick and unscientific domain name appraisal on http://www.swiftappraisal.com and it suggested that it might be worth over a grand).

Just a thought.

Never mind lad and lassies, if it gets to windy over here on this craggy outpost I have some good friends in RAF Search & Rescue who I reckon I could call on. Must go now, the wind is getting up and I need to tighten the tent pegs.

See you all in the morning,

Night John Boy!

Oi, Shawshank - waddya mean by 'weird musical taste' eh? Go on then, give us a list of a few choice LPs from your collection and we'll see if there is any common ground.
