Subject: An absentee LI supporter challenges YOU

OK, in an attempt to liven this place up - and also in a semi serious vein - can you encapsulate the season in three sentences for someone who
a) used to support the team avidly, so knows the history pretty well
b) but has been out of the loop for the past season and a half.

Me, basically.

For instance, if you'd asked me the same question about the Bachop/Putt/O'Shea/Woods vintage, I'd say, off the top of my head;

1 Lots of passion, lots of running rugby, a real feckin' thrill to be at the matches and wow, what a feckin' great season to be an LI supporter.

2. Full of character, like a full bodied rioja.

3.Maybe rewards were lacking, but blimey, the cup surely ran over in terms of excitement.

So, what have I missed, people? I'm on the verge of returning to the fold, and need filling in (some LI grout would come in handy, as it were).

1) one dimensional play. Lots of oomph but no cutting edge.

2)Underachievement.

3)Great to see everyone at the matches.

but also

A great deal to look forward to especially with our new signings.

A new back line that should bring back memories of our last season at Sunbury.

Great Craic, great people and one hell of a great way to spend an afternoon.

Welcome back.

Let's start the way we mean to go on.

WELCOME BACK CATH.

There, that's better.

We didn't invest in players last year (Uncle Conor told us why) and it showed. About half the team played several months with injuries because (some of) those below weren't stepping up to the plate. This affected performance!!!! (And curiously has hardly been written about.) Far from denigrating players, as has become the fashion, my take is that we should be admiring the courage of many of them.

We lost a few we should have won. We lost a few we could have won. We won a couple we really did not deserve to win.

The season ended.

Oh and the pre and post match partying has reached almost Olympian heights. When wallet and circumstance permit, you'd be well-advised to stay overnight after one of the big games and wallow in a good time.

Alternatively make sure you have a driver!

Hey, Rob. So, whose courage should we be admiring?

Anyone I know - or the new academy players I don't know but have heard so much about, like Alain Delon (who he?)

James, sounds like next season might be a good time to be an LI supporter judging by your optimistic comments?

Players playing while quite seriously injured include (euphemism for there may be more that I don't know about) Beefy, Naka, La La, Strudders, Dec, Gussie, Digby, Tofty.

Now I guess I should try to introduce some of our neophytes?

Delon Armitage, (pr Dylan) Very good footballer in need of more weight, and thus currently doing weights. Quite fast, well balanced. Wing or FB. A regular on the bench and has made some first team starts. Classy, on the edge of a breakthrough into full time ZP.

Nils Mordt. Nephew of the legendary Rhodesian Springbok wing Ray Mordt. Class seems to run in the blood. Plays 12 and spent some of the season trying to keep Rob Hoadley out of the team. Now being selected on a regular basis for England 7s and U21.

Topsy Ojo. Devastatingly quick winger, who has been turning out regularly for England U21. Not yet made his debut for the firsts, possibly because he is not yet yer rounded footballer, and can do daft things, but wow is he quick!

Ross Laidlaw. Plays 10 for England U21, and some say in a head to head with Whitworth (below). Only joined us last year from somewhere out West like Worcester or Bristol or er (forgotten). Good intelligent player who kicks goals.

Neil Whitworth. Plays 10 and 12 but has spent most of his career at 12, where IMHO he is a stand-out. Son of the well known jockey Simon. Pure class, but a bit small at 19 to be challenging for first team honours. However, totally unfased by appearing in the A team against some regular ZP barnstormers, and coming out on top. Dual qualified for Ireland.

Nick Kennedy. Lanky second row, learning his off-field duties in the Bob Casey charm school. Despite apparent fragility Nick (aka JFK or Nick the Ball) plays a rumbustuous game these days, and is our James Bond at the line-out where he pinches a lot of ball, including ours.

Adam Halsey. LH Prop - and a great deal tougher than his baby face exterior suggests. Adam made his first team debut start against Narbonne away and has been a regular bencher. One to watch for the future, and I doubt we'll have to wait for him to turn 30 before we see him at his best!

David Paice. Hooker, much in the Adrian Flavin mould. As he matures further he'll be pushing Adrian for the second 2 spot. Physically tough and combative (another Brian Moore!) but quick about the park.

I Spoke to him last night and he's fine, but working really hard. He's having some time off in Egypt for a while. He'll be walking like an Egyptian before we know it.

Sounds like me after a match (when Pete or Maire is driving of course).

I'm never normally too sure about matters post match esp. when we've won.
