Subject: The winners and winners of this season

(Apologies for any inaccuracies in the ownership details of any clubs mentioned below - but it's quite hard finding out who owns some of them)

Some may congratulate Andrew Brownsword on Bath's return to the top of English rugby, but at what cost eh? Poor old Andrew's personal wealth has suffered this year and he is no longer top of the tree in the Sunday Times Rich List.

This year's big winners look to be Newcastle as Thompson's wealth seems to have leapt from £140m to £400m within a year. Surely some mistake? Well it looks like he was undervalued in 2003 according to the Times.

Other notable mentions must go to Steve's mate Nigel Wray's personal weath (up by £10m), Sale's Brian 'dya like my yacht' Kennedy (up by £32m) and Wasps' Chris Wright (up by £22m). Here's the current top six with last year's figures in brackets:

1 David Thompson (Newcastle) £400m (£140m)
2 Andrew Brownsword (Bath) £190m (£195m)
3 Brian Kennedy (Sales) £187m (£155m)
4 Chris Wright (Wasps) £112m (£90m)
5 Nigel Wray (Sarries) £85m (£75m)
6 Keith Barwell (Saints) £60m (£60m)

One to watch for the future would have to be Dave Whelan of Orrell (up from £194m to £290m), but the whereabouts of Tom Walksinshaw's (Glaws) millions remains a mystery. In 2002 he had an estaimted £175m, but he no longer appears on the rich list (lowest entry £40 for this year). Where has he put all his cash? F1 perhaps.

Sadly, I feel that old Cecil at Worcester will not fair too well in the Premiership next season. His personal wealth seems to be stuck around £30m and therefore not enough to be considered for the rich list these days.

If anyone knows the names of owners of other premiership teams then please let me know. Certainly, LI are owned by a consortium and I think the same is true of Quins, Tigers, Roth and Tykes, which on the one hand probably excludes our owners from consideration for the rich list but on the other also probably means that we won't be sold down the river by any entrepreneurial benefactor (is that an oxymoron?) if the risk of relegation becomes too great.

I do believe I've just been OWNED by Dom.

But of course deciding Heineken cup placings by the Sunday Times Rich List is a FANTASTIC idea. Why didn't I think of it first?
