Subject: LI Old Boy is Naughty Boy...!

Well b-gger me it is quiet on here! 30 posts in total in THREE-and-a-bit days??? Most of them by JonnyC...! Shows how much "noise" was created on the SC by how few people, I guess.

Here is one of our "old boys" being a naughty boy... I seem to recall that he was not universally popular at Sunbury, though my memory may be at fault...! I would NOT want the Dean Ryan hairdryer treatment, would you?

"Henry Paul, the out-of-favour England centre, and Peter Richards, who is in the England squad for the autumn internationals, have been sent home in disgrace by Gloucester after an internal disciplinary hearing and will not travel to France for the club’s European Challenge Cup tie against Bayonne on Saturday. Dean Ryan, the head coach, took action after both players failed to turn up for a compulsory recovery session on Sunday morning in the wake of the 18-16 defeat by Bath in the Guinness Premiership.
Ryan, who is in his first season in charge at Kingsholm and who has a reputation as a disciplinarian, decided that he had to make an example of the players for breaching the club’s code of conduct. Paul, 31, has won six caps, the last of which was a year ago against Australia. He has faded out of contention since and was overlooked for the forthcoming internationals against Australia, New Zealand and Samoa. Terry Fanolua is likely to replace Paul, with Hadyn Thomas continuing at scrum half for Richards, who moved to Kingsholm this season but has featured mainly on the bench."

Well...

1) None of us wants the thing to grind to a total halt, do we...?

2) It began to appear as if flouncing was spreading faster than Bird 'Flu, didn't it? It was quiet... too quiet.

3) I changed my mind, after chat-ettes with one or two people off-mb.

Now we've established that, would you care to offer an opinion on Peter Richards, Henry Paul, Dean Ryan, Gloucester, players' discipline in general or indeed anything to do with LI, or rugby ?

;-)

Alec

I'll give you an opinion, Peter Richards was an arse when he was with us, and it sounds like nothing's changed!

From the Western Daily Press (and thanks to Giles Can't Drink from the Oddshaped place for spotting it!)

Two England rugby stars were disciplined by their club for missing a training session after they partied the night away with Royals - including Princes William and Harry, it emerged yesterday. Henry Paul, 31, and Peter Richards, 27, were among guests at a boozy birthday bash thrown for their team-mate, England World Cup star Mike Tindall, by his Royal girlfriend Zara Phillips at Princess Anne's Gatcombe Park.

It has also emerged two other guests at the party were involved in a fracas.

Guests took part in mock sumo wrestling, and rode a bucking bronco machine. The sporting stars at the boisterous gathering include top jockey Frankie Dettori. The morning after the fun and frolics Gloucester players were due at a "recovery session" at their Kingsholm base and all the party guests, including Tindall, attended - except for England Squad scrum-half Richards and former Bradford Bulls rugby league star Paul, who plays fly-half and centre.

Richards had stayed overnight at Gatcombe Park and Paul missed the club session because he decided to travel North to meet his brother Robbie - 29 year old Bradford Bulls captain - to celebrate the League side's 15-6 Grand Final win against Leeds.

Now the pair are in disgrace after being summoned to a club disciplinary inquiry.

Their punishment for missing the recovery session - which followed their 16-18 defeat at Tindall's former club Bath last Saturday - is to be dropped from the Gloucester squad going to France this weekend for a European Challenge Cup match with Bayonne.

Club spokesman Alastair Downey said the pair had been told of the reasons for the club's action.

A club insider said being dropped from the squad to go to France was "a real slap in the face".

Er no. Being put on the transfer list or being fined is a slap in the face, not having the weekend off!

I like the use of the phrase "recovery session".

Perhaps Sgt-Major Ryan does have a sense of humour...
