I've never quite seen all the episodes, and considering there's a strike, now may be a good time to invest in them. I thought Angel was a great character, although I don't think that show always did him justice. I adored the Darla/Connor arc, in particular. I know Connor was problematic for most fans, but I thought that despite the storyline problems (with Charisma's pregnancy & bed rest, etc...) those were the moments where we really saw Angel at his most tortured best.
