at the time, I had no idea who he was. It was in 1971, I think. When I was about 18 and 19, I used to sneak my way into clubs, along with a few friends, to see some singers. It was the mid 60's, I lived in B'ham and I loved soul and R&B...and I'm white. I got to see Clarence Carter(Can You Slip Away), Rufus Thomas(Walking The Dog)and his daughter Carla and Etta James!!! I got to hear her sing a LOT of songs. My personal favorite is All I Could Do Was Cry, closely followed by Pushover. I also got to see the Drifters, The Impressions & the Tams. My father would have seriously, beaten me to death, if he had found out. I've never regretted it and will always remember. I STILL love that music! I got to see Robin Matson & Theo Phenglis(SP)at a mall in B'ham once but the crowd was so big that I couldn't get near as close as I wanted. That was in the "who killed Diana Taylor" days. I did quite a bit of illegal drag racing back then, too, LOL!! People who know me now would be shocked, I'm sure. I still like to speed thru hills and curves when I'm sure no one is looking.
