BTW, The original source of that was ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY.

It's obvious that Joss liked the female characters better, but in THE GIFT, OMWF and CHOSEN (all Joss written) Spike was the hero. He also rewrote the ending of BENEATH YOU, which got Emmy buzz.

Joss said Willow was his favorite and she was completely annoying at the end. He often said he adored Fred and so her soul was destroyed and she was turned into a borg thing.

Most of the other writers preferred Spike and were vocal about it. I think his non-fave Spike got the better deal.
