I understand fully what both of you are expressing, and if I didn't have the feeling that another shoe was going to drop, soon, I'd agree. I went through a cycle from complete emotional devastation at the end of the ep to marveling anew at the sheer genius of David Chase some 12 hours later. Rarely is anything ever just as it seems on this show. And when it comes to analyzing Tony's behavioral motivations and reactions, that is true to the nth power.

All my thoughts are at my forum, although I expect they're far too lengthy for anyone who's not really, REALLY into it to read.:-) But you can cruise by there and skim, if you've a mind.

If you want the 1 sentence nutshell of my view, when Tony killed Chris, he was subconsciously killing his own father. He has finally, in an incredibly perverse heralding of long-delayed personal growth, conquered Johnny Boy Soprano as an idol and role model. But he's about to totally come unravelled. The title of the next episode is "The Second Coming" and dollars to donuts it's a reference to the Yeats poem that Melfi quoted from in season 5.

I could almost agree he's a danger to whack his whole crew but only because he has come to despise what they represent, which means he despises himself even more. I still don't think he would ever, ever harm his immediate family.

It's going to be very ugly, but I feel something close to a redemption in the cards.
