Demonic Possession:

A True Encounter With A Demon

There have been numerous accounts written and unwritten that entail people being possessed with a demonic entity. One such story that most everyone is very familiar with is the movie “The Exorcist”. Besides the explicit over rated special effects, this story was based upon a true account of demonic possession of a young boy. The root cause was from a child playing with a Ouija Board. Although Hollywood exaggerated the accounts from the book, which was also doctored, it was the very idea that it was based upon a true story. That is what makes it horrifying, to think that a person even a child can be possessed and that it actually happened. According to an interview that was done from one of the priest that was present in the actual event, they keep a diary of the events that occurred. This is normal unheard of from the Catholic priest, who are secretly appointed to perform the exorcisms. But on this particular case they did because of the severity and lessons that might be learned. The author of “The Exorcist” was able to derive his story from this documented case. Other accounts have been recorded of demonic possession; however, not many were documented like that of “The Exorcist”. But we do have explicit proof from the Bible, in the New Testament, of several demonic possessions; however, there still is not up to date documentation that proves possession still occurs today. Many believe that the possessions stopped after the apostles. But then there are those that believe the contrary. Many believe that there is a resurgence of possessions occurring today because of the way our society has become numb to the morality issues contained in the Bible.

Demonic activity is not something to be toyed with as it is very dangerous as Ephesians 6:12 states,



“12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.[1]”



Satan and the demons are very deceiving and dangerous and have the ability to possess a human body. When this occurs many things can take place for the unfortunate soul. Throughout the Bible we find where Jesus cast many demons out of people and upon this, the possessed were set free of the bondage that held them captive. This bondage we find ranged from madness, sickness, blindness, deafness, afflictions of the bones, and muteness. We also find that demons can enter animals as well. The point is that demons are very powerful each have different effects on the unsuspecting person. But do demons still possess today?

In the fall of 2000 a particular story was released by the London Wire concerning a possessed girl being brought to the Pope. According to the story this young girl had been seen by a few of the Catholic Priest in Rome and it was determined that the girl was indeed possessed. Because the priest were unable to successfully exorcise (the casting out of the demon(s)) they sought the audience of Pope John Paul. Upon his trying to exorcise the demon for approximately 30 minutes he too found that the demon was to strong. During the exorcism the young girl fought to get loose from the men that held her. She showed enormous exhibiting forces of strength and gurgled out sayings that were of an unknown language. She also said a few choice perverse sayings as well. All that witnessed this account said that the voice was not that of the young girl. The Pope could not exorcise this strong demon and had to let the girl go for this time.

This is just one of many stories that unfortunately did not have a happy ending where the person was released from their torment. Each story has its own unique twist of events and encounters like the one that is about to be told. This story is a true account; however, the names of the witnesses and persons involved , and places have been changed at their request for very obvious reasons.

The event occurred during a revival the first part of January 2001. The pastor of the small church had invited a particular evangelist that is well known for his powerful messages. The story unfolds during the first night of the revival when the evangelist uses a sort of audience participation exercise during his message. This particular women gets up and participates which some already knew that she had been thrown out of churches before in their area. But no one really knew why, and being Christians they were not about to do the same. One witness remembers that the women was “speaking in tongues”, which occurs in the holiness churches; however, this time it did not seem right something was unnerving about it.

The next couple of nights the evangelist gave his message then started doing alter call, where people can go and pray and ask for God’s intervention for whatever their needs. The evangelist had mentioned that he felt that their were several in the need of healing of various ailments. However, this would not be the night that would catch everyone by surprise, but would be the leading point to the one that would.

The very next night the evangelist did the same thing, he gave his message that God had placed on his heart and then started the alter call. This time a middle aged women approached the evangelist and started telling him that she needed a healing. As he started to pray for her the women started babbling on about every illness and affliction that the evangelist had mentioned the night before during the services. Ray recalls this happening that particular night,



“The minister was praying for those that were sick and needed prayer. I was sitting towards the front of the church and I noticed the woman approaching the alter. The minister started walking toward her so he could pray for her. She started talking really fast giving mention about the pains she was encountering. The women just kept talking and the evangelist could not pray for her…cause she wouldn’t stop talking. He finally told the women, ‘Open your eyes and look at me’, but she would not. Finally the women reached out for the ministers throat. The woman then made the statements that ‘I am going to kill her’(speaking of herself), ‘I am going to kill you’ several times.” [another witness stated that the women was also saying ‘Your God can not heal her’]



This particular nature of the women gave the evangelist indications that what he was dealing with was not the women but something stronger and demonic. He started invoking for the demon to come out of her in the “name of Jesus” along with claiming the blood of Jesus and rebuking the devil. The eyewitness noticed that the women showed extra-ordinary strength, as she slung at least two grown men down and then another couple of men grabbed her arms after she collapsed. During which time the women continued to struggle to get free and go after the evangelist. The minister continued to rebuke the demon for several minutes until the small women finally quit scuffling and settled down. Once she seemed to be calmed and settled, he had her claim the blood of Jesus and say the name of Jesus. She was immediately able to do so, where before she could not utter anything as she did not have control of her own vocal cords. It was noticed that her voice was not like that of others being possessed, like a man’s voice or a gurgling sound, but there was slight difference in her voice. One witness stated, “ When the demon started speaking through the women, her voice change to a slight lower tone” This particular witness was not able to see clearly as she has visual impairment, but can distinguish sounds very well. This is normal as many individuals tend to show extra abilities in senses when one is impaired. Although others were not able to tell due to the commotion that was occurring she was able to tell a distinct change in the woman’s vocals.

The Bible gives us many accounts where Jesus cast out demons and that sometimes the person was possessed by not one or two but possibly thousands of demons. They were either sick physically or mentally to the point that they were incapable of functioning at times or even mad. I firmly believe that people can and are being possessed today especially oppressed by demons. There is only one way to be set free and that is by the gift of Jesus Christ. He is the only one that can set free a person under possession or oppression, not the psychics. Going to a psychic will only make matters worse. As Christians we are protected by the blood of Jesus Christ that He shed for our sins.
