here's a listing of the in season helmet changes and same game variations on helmets (throwbacks and alternates NOT included)

1958 redskins: first 10 games wore a plain gold helmet (last 11/30)
last 2 games began wearing burgundy helmet with yellow-gold and white feather starting at the back and ending about two inches from the center of the helmet (first 12/7)

1960 cardinals: first game wore plain white helmet (last 9/23)
last 11 games added smirking cardinal head (first 10/2)

1962 broncos: first several games wore a brown (though i've also heard a blue) horse on the helmet (last time unknown). then switched to a white horse (first time unknown). the change apparently occurred early in the season.

1962 steelers: first nine games wore a yellow helmet with black stripe (last 11/11)
last five games added the steel hypocycloid logo to the right side of helmet (first 11/18)
for playoff bowl, switched to black helmet with yellow stripe and either steel or steelers hypocycloid logo to right side of helmet. players numbers in white on front and back of helmet (1/6/63).

1970 lions: first four games had plain blue charging lion on helmets (last 10/11)
last ten games added white outline to lion (first 10/18)

off hand i can think of at least two in season variations worn by players:
1967 and possibly 1968 saints: for certain i have a photo of game from 10/29 (vs steelers) where jim taylor had the white-black-white stripe combo, and a lineman behind him has the black-white-black striped helmet.
according to charles arey's helmet project site, 1968 started with the saints wearing the black-white-black combo in the first two games then switching to the white-black-white stripes from game three on.

1973 dolphins: very late in season and thru super bowl viii, players wore two variations on the helmet logo; dolphin partially in the sunburst, dolphin fully in the sunburst.

also, the 1962 49ers added the red oval "sf" logo. some sources insist that the logo was added during the season on a silver helmet. however, it appears that the logo was on the helmet for the whole season. in the l.a. times, there is a photo of the niners in an exhibition game that appears to have the logo. however, the photo reproduction is in very poor quality and thus i can't be fully certain that it in fact is the case.
