Subject: SPACE 2005 - a second day?

Greetings, fellow comic art geniuses!

We've been discussing plans for SPACE 2005 among our APA-5 membership (and have registered a number of new attendees from our group), and were really itching to spend some time with workshops next year; SPACE is the opportunity for much more than a trade show - it's can be a chance to get all that creative energy out from behind those tables, too!

I've talked about this with Bob Corby and he thinks a morning session on Sunday (10-1) is feasible, for discussion and workshops among the artists, separate from the show and sell day (in the panel room, for those of you who saw last year's setup). He's given the go-ahead to put something together, and I think this has a lot of exciting possibilities!

I was curious as to what, as past exhibitors, your interest in that might be (it should still be possible to make it home or catch a flight on Sunday, so there shouldn't be added travel/lodging expenses), and what topics you might be interested in discussing during such a period. Would you like a set agenda, or just set up some round-table discussions among ourselves, perhaps with moderators for each topic?

My first thoughts for topics are on hearing about successful marketing methods, teaching comics (to share tips from all of those who teach cartooning), and a show-and-tell of printing methods (since there's a lot more than just xerox'd minis out there - find out more about the "handmade book" techniques in use). I'd also like to see a table for jam comics, or simple networking - sometimes it's hard to do a lot of that while covering your table. Others have already expressed an interest in spending Sunday cartooning (certainly last year's sketchbook parties on Saturday night were a lot of fun!) and sharing info. It might be fun to have more time to exchange or work on jam projects in a less hectic environment than the day of the show (plus, knowing we had another day to actively network, we might be more relaxed and focused on promoting and selling our books on Saturday).

Would you be able to/interested in spending part of Sunday on such an event? Please let me know what you'd like to see - or, on the other hand, if you have no interest in such programming.

Please feel free to share the word with other past/potential SPACE exhibitors, as well. Thanks for your consideration,
- dale.
