I think it is a tremendous accomplishment for Sara to have won at such a young age. She stepped into the role with grace, charm and enthusiasm. More importantly, she is one of the formers who continues to give back to the program. She volunteers, judges, emcees and helps anyone who asks for advice or assistance. I believe this program thrives on dedication, and Sara has it. I am so proud of those who have placed in AC, but I am even more excited by seeing former Miss Indianas stay involved. I don't think Miss Indianas should ever be "ranked" - but people seem to insist on doing so. If that's the case, I think it is most important to look at a woman's year of service and take note of what she gives back to the program - because that is what the Miss Indiana program is all about. I see women like Pam Carlberg, Sara Engerman, Besty Bobel, Julianne Hackney, Laurie Broderick, Tammy Trittschuh and so many others who return year after year to give back to the program that gave so much to them. I am so honored to be a part of their sisterhood. I for one, do not consider myself to be some kind of 'Loser Miss Indiana' because I didn't make the TOp 10 in AC. Your year is what you make of it, and to base a Miss Indiana's 'value' on the way the points fell in AC is absurd. I appreciate the kindness and insight Sara offered me before I headed out to Miss America. I will always be thrilled that the program has someone as generous and gracious as Sara. -- Kelly L.
