Whether or not Amanda placed in the Top 10 at Miss Illinois in 2002 has no bearing on how she will compete in Miss Indiana. For one thing last year was her first year in the Miss Illinois pageant or the MAO, and look at the Top 10 contenders at Miss Illinois Erika Harold, Deanna Riddle, Michelle LaGrue, Tobin Finwall, Jodie Kurtz, these girls have all competed many times at the MAO. There were several girls at the Miss Illinois pageant that have been Top 5 and Top 10 in past years that were left standing in the shadows after the Top 10 were announced. It is all subjective. Different judges, different days. Krystal Kama was a Top 10 finalist at Miss Indiana last year and has the potential to win Miss Indiana this year the same as Amanda, and any of the other pre-lim winners that come along. It is all in how much the girl wants to work with her platform, her interview skills and also what the judges are looking for at that particular time. Every girl has room for improvement, even Miss America.
