The title of Miss Local, Miss State and Miss America is a "Job" for one year.

Miss Local, Miss State and Miss America is often invited to make public speaking appearances. The use of correct grammar is very crucial....

The interview segment of competition is the very first impression the judges see of every contestant. First impressions are lasting and contestants want to make a positive lasting impression.... Very often the first impression of the judges during the interview segment will affect their scoring (regardless of how well a contestant does or does not perform) during talent, swimsuit and eveningwear competition.....

Interview Segment:
Contestants should be well groomed from head to toe. Choose an interview suit of a color that will work with your skin tone and hair, a style/cut that is flattering to the figure and the fit of the suit should not be too tight or too loose. Regarding hosiery: Choose a color that works well with color of the suit and a color that flatters the leg. Regarding hairstyles: Again, one that flatters but does not Hide the face! Regarding nails: Because of the "clean look" many contestants choose the French Manicure or clear polish. Regarding jewelry: (less is always moore). Regarding Shoes: Shoes and heel height that flatter and or elongate the leg. As a rule, neutral (taupe or beige) is always the best.
You want the judges to "think" this contestant possesses the qualties of a Miss America.

Judges score the use of grammar. Below are the basic do's and don'ts....

Avoid overusing the word "do" and or "doing"
I am "competing" in this pageant versus I am
"doing" this pageant....

Avoid "you knows" and the always overused word "LIKE". The word Anyway is both singular and plural. ANYWAYS is not a word. Avoid the current buzz word "So". Such as I am "so" into this platform or I am "so" into my education.

Education:
I am pursuing a degree in.....
I have chosen to pursue a degree in the field of because..
Once I have obtained my degree in.....
Once I have earned my degree in.....
I plan to Earn a degree in the field of......
Upon conclusion of my college career, I am planning to travel or to further my education by entering the Masters program and attend ...... University...

Platform: (using Mentoring as an example)
Actually, my platform chose me....
I am advocating the plaform of Mentoring because.....
I am a Mentor! Then, share a story or example with judges
I am quite excited about my platform entitled Mentoring..
I have chosen to advocate the platform of mentoring for these reasons.... Share up to three reasons
I am promoting the platform of Mentoring for many reasons and I want to share a few of these reasons with you.

Many contestants are quite compassionate about their chosen community service platforms and this is understandable. However, if possible, avoid becoming emotional during the interview process. Some judges are displeased when contestants cry during interview and these judges may record a lower score.

Keep abreast of current events and state history...
Keep abreast of your "city or towns" history.....

Avoid the word "reign". Choose "Year of Service".....

Contestants never "Have" a question from the panel of judges they are "Asked" questions by the panel of judges.

Eye contact with panel of judges, VERY IMPORTANT!

Incorporate "some" humor into your interview

When expressing a point, opinion or suggesting a solution, use proper hand gestures.

Walk tall, express a demeanor of confidence, self esteem and most importantly, relax.
