Kevorkian film rolls into Detroit

For a few hours today, a sliver of downtown Detroit evoked the heyday of the protests against Jack Kevorkian.

The group of irate marchers in front of the Old Wayne County Building this morning was for the upcoming HBO film starring Al Pacino as Kevorkian.

The cast and crew of �You Don�t Know Jack� are in metro Detroit this week to do scenes for the biopic about the assisted-suicide advocate known as Dr. Death.

Actor Danny Huston was spotted outside the Old Wayne County Building around 11 a.m. clad in a suit and overcoat and clutching a briefcase. He was sporting the shaggy blond hairdo that�s a style signature of his character, attorney Geoffrey Fieger, who famously defended Kevorkian.

Earlier in the morning, Pacino and Huston filmed scenes of their characters being interviewed by the press.

Production on the HBO movie started in August in New York. The cast includes Susan Sarandon, John Goodman and Brenda Vaccaro. Barry Levinson is directing the project, which will debut sometime next year.

Filming is expected to continue today at other locations in metro Detroit and will wrap up by the end of the week.

As the cameras rolled today, a cluster of extras playing protesters walked in a circle near the steps of the Old Wayne County Building. They waved their fists and held protest signs like �Kevorkian is a Serial Killer� and �Stop the Dr. Jekylls of Modern Medicine.�
