ANGELRENEWED EPISODE 8

TEASER

L.A. COUNTY COURTROOM - NIGHT

The courtroom is crowded, but mainly with defendants waiting to be bound over for trial. This 'NightCourt' was created to assembly line the process and ease the burden on the more important cases on the court's docket. The judge looks over to the defendant who is standing next to his court appointed attorney.

JUDGE
If the attorneys have nothing more to add, the court is ready to render it's judgement.

PROSECUTOR
Nothing, your honor

DEFENCE ATTORNEY
Nothing to add your honor

JUDGE
Very well, this court finds....

The judge is interrupted when the double doors to the courtroom swing open, and Charles Gunn enters wearing a tailored suit and carrying his briefcase.

GUNN
Your honor, if I may approach the bench?

JUDGE
I wasn't aware Wolfram and Hart was interested in such a minor case.

GUNN
I'm not here on behalf of Wolfram and Hart, and I would not call 2 to 5 which the defendant is facing a minor case your honor.

JUDGE
Then why are you here Mr. Gunn?

GUNN
Why are any of us here your honor; for justice. In this case, I appear simply as a friend of the court.

JUDGE
I assume you have information relevant to this case.

GUNN
I do indeed your honor.

Gunn takes a file from his briefcase and presents it to the judge.

GUNN
I think you'll find this in order your honor.

He also hands a copy to the prosecuting attorney who looks it over and nods to the judge.

JUDGE
In light of this new evidence, I find the defendant not guilty. (looks to the defendant who is still standing) You are free to go. *pause* The clerk will call the next case.

Gunn barely acknowledges the defendant, but as he turns to leave the courtroom, a small grin begins to show on his previous stern demeanor.

By the time he steps into the crowded elevator, his grin has turned into huge smile. He turns to face the closing doors when the elevator operator asks him which floor. He begins to answer the small figure of a man at the controls, but then remembers, the courthouse does not have elevator operators. His smile disappears as the button to the white room materializes on the control panel.

SCENE ONE

EXT - DARK ALLEY - SAME NIGHT

In silent slow motion, a vampire is seen flying through the air backwards. Sound and speed return to normal as he lands on a wooden crate; smashing into it, turning him to dust.

Focus in on Spike in silent slow motion as he turns; his black duster billowing out like a cape.

Return to normal speed as he high kicks a vampire in the throat; knocking the vampire unconscious. In one fluid motion, he turns and stakes a third vampire; turning him to dust. Satisfied with himself, Spike stands over the unconscious vampire. A fourth vampire catches Spike unaware; grabbing him from behind. The vampire punches Spike in the face sending him falling off balance backwards.

In silent slow motion, the vampire's arm raises; stake in hand.

Return to normal speed as Faith comes out of nowhere. She jumps onto the vampire piggy back style. As the three of them fall together, Faith grabs the arm of the vampire and forces him to stake himself. As he turns to dust, Spike lands on his back with Faith on her knees straddling him with the stake now in her hand and only inches from his heart.

FAITH
Was it good for you?

SPIKE
What's this about Faith?

FAITH
First contact, potential.

SPIKE
Great, the last stray slayer we had around here cut my hands off.

FAITH
That was you?

Faith hasn't made an effort to move. She makes herself comfortable as she tightens her knees and hips around Spike's waist.

SPIKE
Yeah, that was me, the crazy git. Good luck with that then.

Spike tries to get up, but Faith heightens the sexual tension as she leans in close.

SPIKE
What's this about Faith?

FAITH
I told you, some type of rogue slayer. Willow says she's never sensed anything like this before.

SPIKE
There's always something, but that's not what I'm talking about. What's all 'this' about?

FAITH
Don't tell me you don't feel it. You're just like me, you live for the moment of battle, the push, the need afterwards.

Spike twists onto his side as he pushes Faith off of him. He then gets to his feet and begins to walk away.

SPIKE
Not bleeding likely.

Faith gets to her feet as she walks to catch up with him.

FAITH
What's wrong? Afraid I won't respect you in the morning? I know you've got a thing for slayers. I've felt it with me.

Spike turns to face her as she approaches. He wraps his arm around her waist bending her back slightly; seductively. He leans in to kiss her, but pulls back slightly as he looks deep into her eyes. Faith closes her eyes as she tilts her head back to receive him. Spike kisses her long and hard. He pulls back and again looks into her eyes. Faith lets out a slight breath before closing her eyes and then takes a deep breath to prepare for another kiss, but Spike releases her and begins to walk away again.

FAITH
What? You can't stop now, I want more.

Spike replies without turning back.

SPIKE
Now you know how I would feel,
(pause)..........after,
(pause)...............wanting something more.

Faith bends down; picking up the stake from the ground.

FAITH
Crap.

She turns and without looking, flings it at the vampire who has regained his consciousness; turning him to dust.

FADE TO BLACK

SCENE TWO

DOWNTOWN L.A. - SAME NIGHT

Angel walks the quiet streets. He appears to be on the trail of something. Something powerful. He turns to go down an alley, but then turns back. Using all of his preternatural senses, he realizes, he is no longer the stalker, but the prey. Without turning to face the unseen foe, he calls out.

ANGEL
Drusilla, you shouldn't be here!

Drusilla comes out of the shadows as Angel turns to face her.

DRUSILLA
Shussh! Don't be a bad daddy.

ANGEL
Dru, you must leave now.

DRUSILLA
Shussh I said, no more talking!

In an instant, Dru moves from one side of the alley to the other. Even with his vampire vision, Angel can barely follow her. Suddenly, she's right in front of him.

DRUSILLA
I stopped counting the stars, now I only talk to the sun.

Angel tries to move, but Dru's eyes turn to red as she brings her two fingers close to his face. She begins to chant in ancient Sumerian in the voice of the first slayer.

Inana an mu-un-cub
(anna abandoned heaven)

Inana Ki mu-un-cub
(anna abandoned earth)

me 7-bi zag mu-ni-in KEC
(she took the seven divine powers)

Inana Kur-re ba-e-a-ed
(anna descended to the underworld)

Oo-kush-ta
(from the raging storm)

me-ool-lee-a
(I bring the power)

ba-ab-ab tum-mu-de-en
(of the primeval one)

me mu-un-ur-ur
(to collect the divine powers)

(heat/boil the wind)

A wirlwind of a storm fills the streets as lightning bolts crack all around.

FADE TO WHITE

It's a bright spring day as Anne sits underneath a giant oak. She's a vision of beauty in a white sun dress with pink flowers. A glimpse of movement in the valley below catches her eye. As the image aproaches, we see a white stallion with Liam sitting tall and lean in the saddle. Wearing a white shirt, black chaps and a firm jaw, he commands the horse with the grace of untamed dangerous strength. At the edge of the knoll, he dismounts and gives the horse a slap on the rump; sending it back the way he came.

ANNE (calls out)
You think that's wise...letting him run free like that?

LIAM
I think so...he knows the way home.

Liam draws near and takes a seat next to Anne.

ANNE
Yeah, well, he knows the way to my blackberry patch too.

Anne proudly holds up her hands to show the blackberry stains.

ANNE (continues)
.....but I beat him to it today. Two baskets full. We'll have pie and jam and preserves till we're sick of it.

Looking at her stained palms, she becomes sullen; deep in thought.

LIAM
What is it?

ANNE
Oh nothing I guess. This just seems familiar.

LIAM
You're not the only one who's been busy. I've been doing a little bartering in town and I got that plough and pump we need.

ANNE (folding her arms across her chest)
Listen plough boy, I don't want you digging up my field this year. I told you I want to grow rice not potatoes!

LIAM
There's still some ploughing to do. Your rice field will need some levies and locks. That area you picked out by the river is a natural, but rice means controlling the water. We'll have to drain it and then flood it and then drain it again when it's time to cut. I had to order the rice seed special.

Liam begins laughing to himself, but can't hold it back from Anne's notice.

ANNE
You want to let me in on the joke?

LIAM
They've taken to calling you Patty in town. The general opinion is if rice would grow here, our grandfathers would have been growing it.

ANNE
If those men and their pints would crawl out of that tavern every once in a while, they would see this is not the same land as their grandfather's.

LIAM
I'm sure you're right, but all this talk of food has me famished. I hope there's more to eat than just pie.

ANNE
I've got a one pot roast simmering on the stove. With carrots and celery and onions...

LIAM
...and potatoes?

ANNE
Yes (sigh) ...and potatoes.

LIAM
Well, what are we waiting for!

Liam takes Anne around her shoulder with one arm and with the other under her knees; he lifts her and begins carrying her back to their cottage.

ANNE (giggles)
Liam!

LIAM
Ok, maybe it'll be faster this way. Giddy-up!

Liam throws Anne over his shoulder and gives her a slap on her rump as he mock gallops back to their home.

Inside the Cottage of the Valley

Liam sits in a large easy chair as he finnishes a slice of blackberry pie. Anne is over by the hearth as she uses an iron poker to stoke the fire.

LIAM
That was delicious. You sure know how to cook. (Liam gives a wink) In a manner of speaking.

ANNE
Is that what they're calling it down at that tavern of yours now? Honestly, I don't know why I put up with you.

LIAM
Come over here and let me remind you.

Anne settles in next to Liam just as knocking is heard at the front door.

ANNE
Oh poo! Just as things were heating up.

The knocking turns to banging as Angel is pulled back into the alley. He looks around to see the banging he heard was a trash truck emptying a trash dumpster, but there is no sign of Drusilla.

CONTINUATION OF TEASER

L.A. COUNTY MAIN ELEVATOR

Insert CGI special effects

Gunn stands frozen as the wry little man reaches to press the button to the White Room. Gunn's perspective changes as he is now at the control panel and it is he who is pressing the button. The elevator moves up and down in rapid fashion as time speeds up and people get on and off. Gunn is merely along for the ride. He is separated from the world around him. Just as quickly, time reverses to the point where Gunn first got on the elevator. He watches himself get on the elevator as a white light takes over.

FADE TO THE WHITE ROOM

The black panther prowls around Gunn, reading his mind as questions race through Gunn's head.

Selecting one, it answers.

BLACK CAT

The White Room can not be destroyed.

Then responding to another question of Gunn's we can't hear.

BLACK CAT
What better place for nothing to exist than the halls of justice. You think you did a good thing just now. In six months, the man you freed will kill a policeman while robbing a liquor store. Had he been convicted today, he would be facing early release next year rather than the death penalty.

Speaking out loud

GUNN
I can't worry about what might happen. I have to do what I feel is right, right now.

BLACK CAT
The future, like the past, does not exist. There is only now.

GUNN
Why did you bring me here?

The black cat morphs into Gunn

BLACKCAT/GUNN
You are mistaken. You are alone here.

GUNN
If I'm alone here, who am I talking to, myself?

BLACKCAT/GUNN
Extra perseption. The white room is a conduit of the sun God Ra. Dimensions are all around; one only has to look to gain answers. The white room acts as a power line stung between poles. From your perspective, a power line appears to be a two-dimensional line, but from the perpective of an ant, the braided cable of energy is the entire world. The white room creates a vanishing point where both realities exist.

GUNN
That sounds like something....

he trails off

BLACKCAT/GUNN
Yes, something Fred would understand.

GUNN
Another of my choices gone wrong?

BLACKCAT/GUNN
The white room is not a confessional. What you don't understand is; your lineage dates back to when the Nile waters flowed past the worshipers of RA. Have you never wondered why you hate vampires so much? It goes much futher back than the death of your sister. Your ancestors joined RA in a battle between human and vampire. Which side will you be on now?

GUNN
Are you saying RA will return to rid the world of vampires?

BLACKCAT/GUNN
Ultimately, but first, the battle will be between an old foe. An old one you helped to release.

GUNN
Illyria.

BLACKCAT/GUNN
Yes. Circles within circles. Your metal has been hardened again and again under fire, but the consumption of Fred has given you an inner core which will allow you to bend with out breaking during the chaos.

GUNN
Chaos?

BLACKCAT/GUNN
You have time to consider, although not for long. The next caretaker of the white room has been waiting two hundred years to take her place. She is pulling together the forces of chaos right now.

GUNN
She is re-forming the Ra Tet?

BLACKCAT/GUNN
Again, you are mistaken. The Ra Tet is.

FADE TO BLACK

CALDERA CONCLUSION

INT - TOPLESS NIGHT CLUB - SAME NIGHT

Spike is seated with two girls on a curved love seat. On a small table in front of them, there are several drinks and even more empty shot glasses. Spike has been there for several hours as he is visibly drunk. The club is apparently an inter species bar. The girl dancing on stage has light blue skin, a protruding collar bone, and what looks like a spine running down the middle of her chest. She's quite stunning. The two girls with Spike are fawning all over him.

SPIKE
Hey, didn't that dancer have green skin before?

GIRL #1
Sometimes

GIRL #2
If you buy us a bottle of Champagne, we could go back to a private room.

SPIKE
Not bleeding likely. You think I died yesterday? I know how these places work.

GIRL #1
It's not like that. You're as safe as kittens here.

INSERT FLASH SCENE

In a smoke filled room, four demons are playing poker. One of them is handing over a small helpless kitten.

As Spike ponders this image in his head, a fight breaks out. A demon comes flying across the table where they are sitting. Spike is able to grab his drink before the demon knocks over the table and then falls into another table. This starts a second fight, which starts a third. Spike stumbles and staggers through the chaos of the bar as he tries to focus on the front door of the club. Each time he sways one way and then the other; a fist or a flying beer bottle misses him. He doesn't even notice his luck as he remains focused on making it to the front door without spilling his drink. Once outside, he brings the drink to his lips, but doesn't notice a small step down, and promptly falls over shrubbery lining the walkway.

SPIKE
Hey mate, better watch who you're bumping into. I don't take the piss off of nobody.

He stands ready to fight as he tries to focus his vision.

SPIKE
Oh, you're just a hedge.

He gives a cursory look around before taking a stance that looks like he's about to water the bushes. Before he can go any further, he's knocked to the ground and the figure of a girl is straddling him with a stake just inches from his heart.

Spike tries to focus in on the three images of the girl on top of him.

SPIKE
I already told you, not bleeding likely. No more kisses from me tonight.

DRUSILLA
An ashen kiss goodbye. I should send you to cinders.

The sound of her voice brings Spike out of his drunken haze.

SPIKE
Drusilla!........Dru?

DRUSILLA
Oye, my Spoike already has a 'ole in his 'eart.

In silent slow motion, the camera focuses in on an intricately carved wooden stake as Dru raises her hand.

Return to normal speed as she brings the staff of Ra down towards Spike's chest.

CUT TO BLACK

The ME stick figure demon walks across the screen wearing an Egyptian head-dress.

grrr......arrrg!
