Subject: Big Rick Gets Nasty

CORINTH- The peloton rolled out from Ronny Crownover Tuesday afternoon with two surprise guests, Slammin Sammy and Da Met in tow. The large group turned south onto Oakmont Drive and immediately got smacked in the mouth by a 22mph headwind. As a result, the pace stayed low and the Amarillo Train easily rolled along at 14mph.

Things started to heat up as the group crossed over I-35. Scottie went to the front and decided to stretch his legs. The Cannibal quickly came round and put the hammer down causing some cracks to form in the group.

After the Westlake U-turn, the group finally turned north enjoying the tailwinds. Thrasher made a sneaky move on Fish Hook hill and was first to the top but his attack was quickly snuffed out by a Stop Sign and passing car.

The group turned right on Shady Shores and Big Rick applied pressure at the front. Cannibal, Rick and the Old Man quickly had a gap as they flew down the descent. The group of three backed off in Cielo Ranch and the riders started to re-group as they prepared for the Col de Shady Shores.

Scottie rolled off the front and went alone to try and soften everyone up before the climb. The boys hit the bottom of the climb "Groupo Compatto" and the pace quickly went up. The Wrench took a flyer off the front and attacked very early. Big Rick, the Cannibal and Scottie responded as they quickly reeled the kamikaze back in. This was Rick's day, however, as he powered over the top first and no one was able to come around him.

Over the top, the group had been whittled down to four including the Old Man, Scottie, Big Rick and the Cannibal. The Cannibal and Rick took turns pulling into the head wind at a steady 22mph. It was clear the winner of the sprint would come from this group.

Rolling down Corinth Parkway provided only quick relief as the boys took a quick sip from their bottles and prepared to roll into hell. With one mile to the finish line, the Cannibal went to the front and started pulling at 26mph into a cross wind and slight incline. It was clear this was going to hurt.

500 meters to the line and Big Rick jumped and showed everyone a clean pair of wheels. There was no answer. Rick takes the win with Scottie in second and the Old Man getting on the board with a 3rd place finish.

Its clear Big Rick is primed for his race this Memorial Day.

2007 CCC Summer Crit Standings:

Big Rick - 9 points
Scottie - 8 points
Dice - 4 points
Tornado Tom - 2 points
Old Man - 1 point

Note: 3 points for a win, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd.
