The Appalachian Whitetail Association is a chartered non-profit organization that was founded in January, 2001. It is the first and only deer hunters' organization of its kind in the Appalachian regions of East Tennessee, S.W. Virginia, Western North Carolina, Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. The AWA is offered to interested Outdoorsmen and Outsdoorswomen of all ages who care about the future of the Whitetail Deer and Deer Hunting in this region. The Association will focus on three main goals: (1)the betterment of the Whitetail Deer as a species; (2)preservation of quality habitat; (3)continuation of the heritage of Whitetail Deer hunting. my name is shaun and i dont have a vehicle i need someone who doesnt really have a place to hunt this year ive got 2 different places too hunt 238 acres in caney valley and 60 acres in carters valley if someone can drive during hunting season i am willin to take them i have plenty of stands and trail cams if interested email me at shaun6951@yahoo.com

The HRC picnic will be July 11 from 10:00 to 2:00 at the Derrick Park in Church Hill. Phil's Dream pit will be cooking Hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, and cole slaw. Drinks will be provided by HRC. There will be a desert contest with prizes for men, ladies and kids best deserts. To get to the park turn at red light on 11w at Food City and Mcdonalds. Go beside these stores to bottom of hill and turn left, park will be on your right. This is also where the boat ramp is located. I need to know if your coming and how many by July 3rd. You can reply to this note or call me at 423-345-2934. Come on out we'll have LOTS OF FUN AND DOOR PRIZES.

The following resolutions were voted on and passed at the EC Meeting held June 25,2009:

1. Effective July 1,2009, each chapter of the AWA will develop an active/inactive adult member list. To be considered an active member you must attend 3 meetings and 1 AWA function/workday per year. Only active members will be considered for AWA hunts.

2. Effective September 1, 2009, AWA lifetime membership will be suspended. The current lifetime members will be grandfathered in. All new members will have annual dues of $25. Lifetime membership will no longer be offered.

Subject: AWA CAMPOUT

Copper Ridge Chapter is hosting a weekend campout on July 17, 18, and 19 at Clinch River Valley Campground. Copper Ridge Chapter will be paying for all campsites and evening meals.

On Friday night we'll be having a cookout of hot dogs and hamburgers. Members are asked to bring a covered dish. Also, members are asked to bring their instruments to play around the campfire. We'll also be having s'mores that evening.

On Saturday we'll be having a corn hole tournament for AWA members around 1 p.m. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Also the 1st place winners will take home the coveted corn hole trophy! (Randall Davidson and Tim Thacker were the winners last year) We'll also be giving away door prizes. At 5:00 p.m. we'll be having a catered Bar-B-Q supper. We hope to have a live band at 6:00 p.m.

If you want to camp with us please post a note here or call Karen at 276-594-1343 or 276-386-2677 before July 13.

If you just want to come down on Saturday for the corn hole tournament or for Bar-B-Q you also need to post a note here by July 13. We look forward to hearing from everyone!

Directions to Clinch River Valley Campground: Take Highway 23N towards Speers Ferry, just after crossing Clinch River Bridge turn Left onto Route 625, travel approximately 7 miles and the campground is on the Left. Watch for signs.

Due to the HRC Annual picnic ....There will not be a monthly meeting on July 7th.. Our meeting will be the picnic...Remember if you plan to attend the picnic. I need to know how many by July, 3rd.

Randall Davidson elected Chairman

The Kingsport Chapter will host an ATV ride/campout at Kent Steadman's farm in Hawkins County this Saturday, June 27th. Meeting time is 9am and the ride will begin at 10am. A cookout is to follow the ATV ride. Please come join us for a fun time!

Take Hwy 11W to 70N at Rogersville
After crossing Clinch Mountain,take the first road on right

I would like to invite all AWA members to the Copper Ridge Chapter campout at Clinch River Valley Campground on July 17,18,19. The menu is hot dogs and hamburgers on friday night and on saturday we will have a BBQ dinner catered at 5pm. Reminder: If you entered the Kingsport Chapter's 2009 Turkey Contest, the final scoring will be held at the June 20th meeting. The following 3 entries were scored at the May meeting:

Toy Simpson: Beard length 9 12/16,Spur #1- 1 6/16, Spur #2- 1 5/16 Total score: 46.375
Jerry Griffin: Beard length 9 1/2, Spur #1- 1 4/16, Spur #2- 1 3/16 Total score: 43.375
Phillip Hillman: Beard length 9 10/16, Spur #1- 1.0, Spur #2- 1.0 Total Score: 39.250

*Scoring is based on a total of the beard length X 2 plus both spur lengths X 10, all measured to the nearest 1/16 of an inch.
Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners after the final scoring in June. If you entered the contest, don't forget to bring your entry to the June 20th Potluck Picnic!

First of all I would like to thank all the officers who served the 2008/2009 year and welcome all the new members who have steped up for the 2009/2010 year. We had our May election and
the new officers for the North Cherokee Chapter are:

I would also like to announce that at our meeting we held a vote and have decided to join forces with Hunters Helping Kids, The Quality Deer Management Assocation, and Quails Unlimited. We will all be having our meeting at the fire dept. in Blountville on the second Monday of each month at 7:00. We are all going to work toghter to try to make a difference in the Tri-Cities area.

Subject: Kingsport Chapter ATV Rides

Mark your calendars and join the Kingsport Chapter for the following ATV rides:
June 27th- Kent Steadman's farm,Hawkins County
July 25th- Chuck Swan
September 18th-19th: Squirrel Hunt/ATV ride at Chuck Swan. The Kingsport Chapter will host a weekend campout to include an ATV ride and Squirrel Hunt Contest.

Chuck Swan Squirrel Contest Rules:
The Squirrel Hunt will be a rifle or shotgun hunt and it will take place on September 19th. The contest will end at noon and squirrels are to be checked in by 1pm at the campsite. The Kingsport Chapter will award a winner for the most squirrels. In the event of a tiebreaker, the award will go to the person who makes it back to the campsite first.

*More information to include meeting times and places will be posted closer to the dates
