The truth is from my own experience one can attain fruits of higher Kriyas as taught by Shibenduji without Khechari Mudra.

I remember once in an email conversation with Ned, I mentioned to him what was happening to me. He seemed very happy for me and said that I was experiencing "the Paravastha of Kriya". I had begun experiencing it after initiation into the 2nd Kriya(without Khechari) and spending a week with Shibenduji.

So-thats my experience of it.

The ultimate Khechari is the mind merging into the void not the tongue in the throat, with may a precursor to it, but in at least some cases not needed. Other paths merge into the void Brahman and do not use the tongue for anything.
