Subject: Mr. Olympia

I recently watched the 2005 Mr. Olympia on my new High-Def TV. This was one of the most dissapointing, awkward, and sad things I ever experienced. (I'll get to how this relates to this board in a minute). Arnold was there, Joe Weider -the guy who started it was there- and of course all the top candidates for the title of Mr. Olympia.

Triple H (from WWF or whatever) was the host. There were two rounds, the first round they came out and did a show of their muslces in some creative way (with music, props, etc). The only guy who had rhythym to go along with massive muscles didn't even make the top 5! (didn't catch his name though) The guy who has won the thing for the past 7! years -Coleman- beat out the guy who has lost to him the past 3 years in a row -Jay Cutler.

Besides the fact that these guys were all monsters, what this displayed to me was how unbalanced they were (or at least came off as). Granted, many spoke english as a second language, when the microphone was put in front of their faces, they had absolutely no personality or charisma whatsover -like robots. One factor could be how they dehydrated they were, but still, one guy all he could say was "I lift" "I work out" "I work hard". Spending so much time and energy on one thing -developing their muscles- they have neglected developing a mind, sense of humor and personality.

This goes back to how Yogananda drew some cartoons of people with large heads, others with oversized bodies, etc, to show how stupid they look so unbalanced!

There was an exception, this one guy from Germany (who finished 4th) his name Gunter, showed not only a great smile, but also a sense of humor, heart and personality. Besides him, the Jay Cutler was so mad and distrought about losing a 4th time in a row to Coleman, that he couldn't speak. Coleman was by far the most ripped and freaky-big, back when he started winning 7years ago. But now he was not nearly as smooth and chisleled as he was back then. This time, I think Cutler deserved the win! Coleman fell to the floor and then went on repeating himself over and over how faith in God and Jesus Christ was his key to success. At first I thougth it was cool, but then he went on and repeated himeself four times and it sounded foolish at the end. Also, he forgets that super freak genes for muscles his size are a factor besides prayer at night.

Think about it, this was the same exact result for the past 4 years, with almost the same exact characters. They flexed for a full hour (how much can a guy flex before passing out anyway?). It was so repetitive (yet admittingly I did want to see the finish). What a dissapointment! I'll never watch one again.

Moral: do a self check to make sure you don't walk around with elephant ears or a giraffe's neck.
