Redpurusha,

The early Christian monks used to keep a human skull in their cells, called a "memento mouri," or reminder of death. They did this not to be morbid, but out of a recognition that the mind/ego's attatchment to this world is very strong.

If you were in a canoe on a lake and suddenly realized there was a small hole, would you continue to admire the beautiful scenery as you roe? Would you not make every effort to save yourself, knowing that your life depended on it?

This is our reality -- the hole through which the waters of time ceaslessly flow. Every moment/breath we have less time.

The glass is not half empty...it is actually half full!
