Yes, but Mr Hoskins experiences were as real as anything related by Norman Paulsen.

In the 1970's I had a schoolteacher who was one of the few outsiders to have spent some time in Tibet, then still a very mysterious country. I asked him about Rampa's books and he told me that when "The Third Eye" was first published he had found it very strange. He had then written a polite letter to Mr Rampa in Tibetan welcoming him to the country and asking a few questions. Needless to say Rampa could not understand a word of Tibetan and did not know how to respond. After several months a reply was received from Rampa's secretary claiming that the master had gone into a deep meditation and was unable to reply to correspondence for the forseeable future.

Rampa (Cyril Henry Hoskins) was exposed quite quickly as there were many Tibetan refugees, including genuine monks and Lama's in the west at that time. I think he later started a colony in Canada along with a few followers.
