Yes, indeed, he may not be a perfect yogi by a long shot according to the acceptable norm. Plus, his books are not at all scholarly and his speeches are even more drury. However, our intellect always wants to have something elite to entertain the ego and feel superior.

When one of his sanyasin complained that how bad (all that you have nmentioned) Osho was and so forth and he has lost his faith in him(osho). He (osho) himself answered to that Q that "I cannot tbe a Master that you and the society wnats me to be as. IF I behave the way you want me to than I am not a master of myself and I am cheating myself. It does not matter what other says. If you cannot accept me as I am than you are free to leave." He had also mentioned that his eyes were very hypnotic and his sanyasins used to complain about how he reads their minds and that would shake them. So, he started wearing the sunglasses.

I had a chance to talk to one of his direct sanyasin and he told that "his eyes were such that with one eye he could read my mind and with the other eye he would penetrate my very soul and expose to me of all my thoughts. Most preferred to stay away from him."

The amazing thing is he could hypnotize thousands at a time.. In Koregaon, at one time, there was maximum concentration of PhDs and lawyers and journalists compared to any big university envoronment. My friend also told me that whenever journalists went to take his interviews, one third joined him. I doubt very much that they were all dumb without any self control to get in his hypnotic fold. One journalists was fired by his employing TV station because the journalist seem to agree with Rajneesh and having good time with him instead digging the dirt.

The way I looked at his discourses is that he makes several clandestine claims that is hard to swallow and it just clicked in me that if I can think critically what he says than at least I owe it to myself to go thru and critically check my own entire belief system that i have been given by the culture and family and environment. I ask my self, Have I been gullible to this teachings or that teachings etc. and list is endless. One would be surprised how many dogmas one carries and not even know it.

Osho has emphatically and repeatedly told that one should never consider truth what he says. One has to find it on their own. To say the least, he was an interesting phemnomena in the theater of universe.

It is only when we drop our entire belief and dogmatic individuality then freedom starts shining and awareness becomes more sharper. I know it can be very difficult to be streeped naked of one's own identity.
