I wonder why they need "scientists" in order to find out. The question is simply whether he takes food or goes to sleep at night. For this you don't need scientists.

If he is staying under the tree all the time by his own choice, I agree they should leave him alone. What should perhaps be investigated are the motives of those who made him public.
