No not exactly like that. At the time of initiation, one had to agree not to continue with any pranayama practices if they had practiced them in the past. They also had to be vegetarian, agree to meditate 2.5 hours a day and keep a daily diary of their thoughts, words and deeds so as to become aware of their conditioning and forge a new path. The diary is the best way I have seen for Yama/Niyama practice. Unmarried disciples were expected to remain chaste. Married disciples were cautioned to gradually reduce sexual activities to no more than once a month, and ideally only when conception was desired.
