Subject: season 2005

Being a bloke who loves local footy, and lkes to get about and see at leat 1 match per week, I have read much of the banter on this site and had a few good laughs. Now my turnm to provide a laugh, here is my preview of 2005, no offence intended to anyone involved:-

Wests - remind me of the old song ' the great pretender' likes to talk big, but always looked short of the top level in 2004, and not hearing too much about new buys for 2005, except the centre from uni who scores tries but lets plenty in. Im think they will come up short again, maybe out in the semis. Amazing how a cllub with so many good u18s can't seem to get them to 1st grade.

Dapto- rarely do they miss the semis then not respond, so beware of the wounded canary. Have heard they have some new big boys in the back row, but prop could stil be there weakness. Holbrook is class, but will the extra responsibility affect him. Certainties for semis, and a string chance.

Port - a very enetertinaing team with great support at home, and away. Clint Hill will be a massive loss, along with Andrew Bobbin. If Grant Bobbin misses much footy they will miss his workrate. The losses also appear to have affected depthy, with several departures to Berkeley. should still go well, maybe just a shade waeker that 2004.

Collies - the team we all love to hate, will most likely lok very different on paper. Still alot of good players there, but I was told by a player who trained there that the place has no soul and everyone is there to line ther pockets. Should go close again, much to the majority of fans disgust, but maybe not as strong as last year.

Wollongong - hope that the recent rumours are not true, but if the coaches money machine has run dry, a few nervous people may jump, as it was a tough year in 2004. Karl Lovell has apparently been signed along with a few goodm young backs. In a delicate situation, and may get ugly if a few hotheads in the camp bump heads. May improve a couple of places.

Corrimal - Brian Walsh in, Willis out. Not much else? but depth has improved, which has been a real problem. Again a real headache and might just pinch enough game to get very close to semis.

Uni - who really knows? a big turnover of players, a new young squad, though many with rep experience so quality is good. A really good coach who will send them out with a structured game plan, which they have not had in recent years. I know they are in the market for one or two more key positions and will then be confident of a competitive team. Adam Canavan on the staff is another graet addition, they might ccause some real headaches.

Thirroul - what about the rumours, Smith, Mackay, Hart, now Dave Furner, when will it stop. Even without these we know what to expect. A team full of heart, well coached that will always give the opposition a great game. might just find themselves in another decider.

Helensburgh - a few new backs, some good ones returning in Haran and Streeting from what I hear. PIgs will be the problem. Finally some good juniors coming through. Personnally I think a good capt/coch always works for the Burgh, and I am not sure how they will respond to an outsider, whose team greatly underperformed in 2004. Hard to see to many wins, but they might just be building towards some good years.

So, there is my early view, I will probably be way off the mark, but the standard loks again to be top notch. Finally if I had to predict a premier - something in my bones says Dapto.
