Just deserves you raise a very good point about clubs that are in debt. I have no knowledge of wether uni are in debt or not but I can asssure you that they are not the only one's if they are. Whilst I'm on the subject of club debt, while clubs have to compete against big spending opposition teams there will always be clubs struggling to pay their bills, most clubs finances are a year to year proposition. Player payments have escalated, some players are being paid far too much to play footy. I blame club administrators and the Illawarra Board of Management who continuosly deny the need for a salary cap or other system in place to ensure that all clubs compete on a level playing field. On the specific issue of CRL insurance, I can say categorically that it is the biggest rip off of all time, the CRL insurance scheme is nothing but a way for the CRL to raise revenue, the level of coverage for what is charged is disgracefull. My personal opinion is that the Illawarra division should pull out of the CRL as the CRL has done nothing for the Illawarra. Illawarra Rep teams can still play high quality matches with Sydney based divisional representative teams or even those from other states such as Queensland, perhaps even N.Z or other Pacific based teams. It would appear that the only reason that Illawarra are in the CRL is because certain people see it as another gravy train to jump on. We all know who they are, they can be seen strutting around in their latest CRL gear like turkeys on steroids. The CRL conferences, talkfests, jaunts and (polo shirts, jackets, ties etc) are paid for, in part at least, by ripping off players through the shonky insurance scheme, as the CRL takes a cut of the premium. Apart from having a compulsory expensive and useless insurance scheme and having to pay for the privilidge of having a CRL logo on your guernsey what has the CRL done for the Illawarra? I would be interested to know.
