She had stayed long enough, the information though sketchy was enough for her to go on. Vampires had moved into this locale and had chosen this town among others as their feeding grounds. This might be song material, or at least story material. She smiled at the little boy on the street corner, he waved and smiled back. She had given an open concert to any who wished to come and listen, and she played to please the crowd. This little boy had been right at the front and she had sensed that he would have the talent to become a bard if he chose. Though the gift was dormant it would awaken at puberty and if he chose that path it would strengthen with practice or fade to almost nothing if he neglected it. After the concert she had made it a point to tell both the boy and his mother, and took his mother aside afterwards to warn her about the danger her son could possibly be in. A mage could siphon the energies from a bard easier than from one who did not have the gift. It could also be used for persuasion if the person in question was unethical. She had written up a brief note for the nearest bard, which was to her knowledge about two weeks away if you traveled by foot. He would train the boy if that was what he wanted, and the note would insure it.

Reaching the trees she lifted the flute which she had kept out of her pack and began to play as she walked. The notes were bright and cheery, a bouncing tune for a brightly lit sun-filled day. The music flowed through the trees and the birds sang a lilting harmony to her melody, making the forest come alive with sound. The wild creatures she knew from past experience would not cause her any trouble, a light touch of the bardic gift was all that was neccessary to keep them from deciding to make a meal of her.
