The Spirit scowled silently, hovering over the Saiya-Jin before withdrawing complete away from her. It could have kicked itself if possible. It’d gotten over confidant, and almost had gotten caught. It was trying too hard to change this one to its liking too quickly. It needed a more subtle approach. It lingered briefly on the dying memory of that demon creature it had found in the man’s mind and growled. It didn’t want to have to face that thing again prematurely.
No, it would have to slow down. Besides, these two had another nine months together, and that would be more than enough time to...influence things.
Perhaps a bit of the Saiya-Jin had rubbed off on it. Everything was done in a rush. But that was careless and it knew better. Better to take things slow and patiently.
What did it care of Time?

“Oh c’mon Ayame, are you trying?” Vincent joked as he leaned right, avoiding a blow to the head from a left hook from the Super Saiya-Jin. A blow that now would have rung his bell had it connected after four months of sparring since the week of her illness. Things were almost back to normal.
Ayame just grinned a bit at him as she followed all the way through with her hook to grab his arm and swing him away from her toward the ground. “Ass. I could ask the same of you!”
Vincent caught himself from the force of the swing and flipped in the air, landing on his feet at an angle with his left hand on the ground, looking up to Ayame with a grin on his face. She’d improved a great deal since four months prior, almost unbelievably. He could have said it impossible, but he discovered Saiya-Jins were everything but. Resilient creatures.
“Hey, I don’t want to tire you out too soon when I’m just starting to have fun!” he countered before pushing himself off the ground to avoid an energy ball that hit where he had just been.
“Oh! Low blow, Vinny. Good one,” she called after him before phasing out of sight and back in, planting a spin kicked right into his midriff with enough force for him to knock some of the wind out of him. Vincent humped.
“Good technique, but now you’re wide open!” he almost laughed and grabbed her leg with one hand, slamming the other one into her stomach. She irked and he let her leg go, letting the force of his blow carry her down. It only took her a second to recover and she was back in his face, moving just a little bit past him and clocked him in the back of the neck with her fists clasped together.
“Cheap shot Vinny. You know better.” He jolted forward in the air only a few inches before spinning around and catching Ayame in the side with his leg. The force knocked her away from him a few feet.
“You’re one to talk about cheap shots Ayame.”
She spun in the air and caught herself. She would have screeched to a stop if she’d been on the ground. “Hey, just paying you back, tough guy.” She straightened with a smirk and brought her fists to her sides. Vincent crossed his arms.
“Oh really now? Then I owe you a lot.” He tilted his head down and smiled almost wickedly. “What do you say we turn it up a notch?” he asked and uncrossed his arms.
“I say bring it on, Vinny,” she replied and crouched, readying herself for whatever it might be that he was bringing.
He let out a short laugh and mused for a brief moment how much like Vegeta she looked. He almost grinned before he held true to his word and turned the heat up a notch, gauging from feel where her power was and pushing his own just a click or two above it.
Ayame scowled and lowered her head. She hated it when he did that. Reminding her how far she needed to go before she could best him. “Damnit, Vincent, quit showing off!”
“Oh, it’s Vincent again now? Getting a little testy are we?” he joked and rushed toward her. The slight difference in their relative powers made all the difference in how their spar would turn out.
‘Ok Ayame, time to start thinking fast,’ she thought to herself as she pushed herself against the air to the right side of his attack. ‘He’s faster and stronger than you now, use your brain, not your brawn and you’ll make it through this with a few...”reminders” as possible.’ She dodged a swing for her head before catching one on her right side. She growled and grabbed his arm, throwing all her weight and strength into swinging him away from her just far enough to catch his chest with her foot before she actually let go of his arm. ‘Don’t let him force you to the next level. Don’t let him have the satisfaction of knowing you have to push yourself so hard to keep up with him.’
Vincent took his time toying with Ayame. It was the only way she’d learn to improvise as she fought him. He caught bits and pieces of what she was thinking while she was dodging him. At least she was more focused now, not like a month ago. Sometimes he thought she was in another world while they sparred, acting solely on instinct to fight him. He’d had to clock her a good few times to get her to ‘wake’ up. Not like he’d really hurt her, through sometimes, it was the only thing she’d respond to. Saiya-Jins must be bred for masochism as well as warriors. He took her blow to the chest and let himself fall back a bit before recovering and coming back up on her.
‘Damnit, he’s faster than I thought.’ She grumbled mentally and started blocking his attacked instead of trying to dodge him, which didn’t take quite as much effort. It started to take on a pattern after a few minutes. She watched him while he continued to wail away on her and she blocked and she finally found an opening. It was a split second between blows where he was completely open. Her armed were starting to ache from being hit and she finally decided she needed to take the opened while she had the chance. Dodging the next blow, she took him off guard from blocking and it left her an open shot to his chest, which she took, ramming her fist right into it. He paused for only a second in shock before reacting to her and brought his knee right up into her face as reaction, not even thinking.
She shot backward from him, holding one hand over her mouth, a complete look of shock on Vincent’s face. She growled at him and lowered her hand from her mouth, then turned her head and spat a bit of blood. Then she wiped her mouth, turning her head back to Vincent.
“Now we’re getting somewhere,” she said softly. ‘Getting somewhere? What the hell? That somewhere just hurt like hell!’
“Oh, so you -want- to play like that Ayame? Ok, I’m game.” He responded and grinned sinisterly toward her. “I’ll make sure we get somewhere real quick if you want.”
‘Crap, what have I gotten myself into.’ A whisper of thought, as though it was a secret to herself. ‘Bring it to the next level...’ “Ok, since you turned it up a notch, I’ll do the same.” ‘Nothing to do now but get on with it. Brains over brawn don’t work when you speak without thinking. God, dumb-ass. Watch what you say next time.’
