Around his neck hung the same piece, but it was of silver and the jewels emerald. He kissed her back, then muttered an inaudible spell. Lorial fell asleep upright in the saddle.

Leading her horse into the forest, they followed a trail for two miles. Finally they came to a small clearing in which a waterfall, ten feet high, occupied one end. There was a small pool, by which sat smooth, gray stone. The grass was short and speckled with many-colored flowers.

Alotn dismounted, and tied thier horses to a tree on the clearing's edge. Picking up Lorial, he carried her to the stone and lay her there. She looked pristine in the dying light, dressed in crimson hemmed with gold. The necklace he had given her began to glow and give off a low heat. His also glowed, but turned cooler instead of warmer...
