Lenariah listened intently to this new knowledge of her comrade. She did not perceive Celefe as a dark person, or as one who would adopt such a risky profession. How was it possible that such an amiable person would put her work ahead of her family?

“Your sister must have multiple faces, for I did not picture her as one who would kill as an art,” commented the enchantress. “However, you should not be offended that her aspirations have placed a wedge between the two of you. I remember, when I was still in Ivaleor, that training could often be time-consuming. Talent can be a curse, when it takes priority over relationships.

It seems as though our cultures are quite different. In my homeland, it was considered the highest dishonor to take the life of another. Our people were never involved in any wars, nor did they quarrel amongst themselves. In place of these fierce warriors and Bladewraiths, as you call them, we have healers. Our enchantments are used in place of swords when the need arises to defend ourselves, and even then, we are only permitted to slightly injure our opponent. In fact, there have only been two recorded incidents of murder in our society…”

Lenariah trailed off, her visage suddenly becoming twisted with sorrow. She turned back to Tevion and forced herself to smile, the cheerfulness returning.

“Other than fishing and occasionally trading, healing is one of the only available careers for the Ivaleons. When a gifted healer has reached a certain level of expertise, they usually join a foreign army to serve as a magical aid,” Lenariah explained. She paused as if in thought, and then continued. “That is the state I was in when I came across your troops. My teacher supposed I was prepared to leave Ivaleor, and I went in search of employment. If your people are in need of a healer, I would be honored to serve you.”
