You are right of course about America where the North doesn't march through the American South to celebrate a victory that sought to - end slavery, inequality, lynching of Afro Americans and about anyone else not White Anglo Saxon Protestant in their outlook and ways, and of course eventually getting schoolkids to school through venom filled mobs.

But a hankering for "the good ole days in Dixie" still remain supported by biblical interpretation (distortion) from fundamentalist religious ministers, the KU KLUX KLAN and other Militia and red necks in America's South. Where a present day litany of Racist murder, burning crosses upside down and protesting at the funerals of murdered Gays demonstrate that Jim Crowe's law is alive and well within many in Dixieland and so it is likewise with their pursuit to restore "the good ole days in the South".

This American situation is undoutedly, mirrored in the North of Ireland in the manifestation and practice of the various orange institutions and the fullest range of Protestant militia including the state forces in the North of Ireland and the sermons of religious fundamentalist preachers. Which firmly completes the saddest siamese bond between the American states like Mississippi and the North of Ireland where Anglo Saxons hanker with all their might to restore their golden age of dominance in "the good ole days" of Protestant Unionist Stormont supreme rule over everything considered "not like them" and the implicit practice of The Penal Laws.


The 21st Century orange victory parades in the North of Ireland go back to European wars in 1690 (financed by the Pope) and some would claim heralded the arrival of religious tolerance for all. Others would claim it was a victory that brought the arrival of tolerating one and only one religion - Anglican. The penal laws applied to all others outside of the religion of the State - Anglican or put in another way - all privileges were reserved for Anglicans only.


It is no surprise then that the mass Exodus from Europe to America during this time 1690 and before it and arguably after this date included people of all denominations seeking a New Jerusalem outside of their homeland and to escape religious and political persecution? Which I believe sounds more like running away from hell, rather than running towards heaven and once again this is a mirror reflection of the Catholic exodus in the year 2004 for many in Antrim Town and elsewhere in the North of Ireland.
