I found this at thatsracin.com

Is that the phone? It must be Tony Stewart

By TOM SORENSEN

The Charlotte Observer

Tony Stewart calls by cell phone on the drive from the airport to Loudon, N.H., where he will race Sunday in the New England 300.
The interview is the fourth we've done one-on-one. Friends usually ask me if an athlete is a good guy or a bad guy and sometimes I can tell them. But I don't know if Stewart is a good guy or a great guy or an instrument of evil.

Stewart lives in a world in which you're good or bad, right or wrong, black or white. But mine includes a touch of gray. And I don't get to guess.

I can tell you that Stewart owns a tiger, a monkey and a Chihuahua, drives a Hummer H2, admits he grabbed Brian Vickers after the Dodge/Save Mart 350 and believes a fellow named Gordon has more talent than any driver he's ever seen.

As he talks about his animals, our cell connection fades and then returns.

"If we get cut off, I'll call you back when I get closer to the track," Stewart, 33, says.

The appeal of the tiger is obvious. Stewart's tiger lives at the Metrolina Zoo in Rockwell. The Chihuahua I also can understand. The Chihuahua is his confidant and every man can use a four-legged confidant.

Stewart had a hilarious name for the monkey but elected not to use it. The name would have offended folks that look for a reason to be offended. So he calls the monkey Mojo. The name offends nobody.

Stewart does. Fans are for him or against him. Kyle Petty is for him. Stewart pledged $1 million to Kyle and Pattie Petty's Victory Junction Gang Camp. (Stewart talks glowingly about the camp, but does not mention his contribution.)

Ray Evernham, who owns the team for which Kasey Kahne drives, has been against him, as has driver Rusty Wallace. Each has been angry enough to talk about going after Stewart.

When I ask Stewart about knocking Kahne out of the way two weeks ago at Chicagoland Speedway and about grabbing Vickers June 27 at Infineon Raceway, our connection again begins to fade.

But instead of rallying, this time the signal does not return. Our conversation has ended. What are the odds of the signal going dead the moment I ask about the controversies that have defined his season and career?

If I believed in conspiracies, I'd say Stewart must have been driving past a grassy knoll. But conspiracies are for people with no hobbies, no interests and, alas, no life.

Twenty minutes later, the telephone rings.

"Sorry," Stewart says.

Stewart reiterates that he had nowhere to go to avoid Kahne. He says he has left messages for Kahne to tell him that.

What about Vickers?

"Vickers spun out after contact with Dale (Earnhardt) Jr.," says Stewart. "But he apparently thinks it was me. And he visibly showed his displeasure when he drove by in the garage."

How?

"By holding up less than five fingers," Stewart says.

Stewart says he approached Vickers' Chevrolet to explain what happened and Vickers, who was still strapped in, smirked.

"I hit his headrest," says Stewart. "I didn't hit him."

Stewart says Vickers continued to smirk.

"So I grabbed him by his uniform and said, 'You're going to listen to me.' "

Members of Vickers' crew pulled Stewart off.

Stewart says that for him neither episode lingered.

"What goes on is the media perspective of it all," he says. "It was not nearly as bad as the media made it seem."

The people in racing whose opinions I respect most say, almost as one, that Stewart and Jeff Gordon are the sport's most talented drivers.

Who do you think is?

"Jeff Gordon and Robby Gordon probably have the most natural talent of everybody out there," says Stewart. "Man, that's hard. I try to think of guys that I could take out of a (Nextel) Cup car and put them in any kind of race car and they're going to go fast."

Jeff and Robby Gordon competed in open wheel racing before moving to NASCAR, as did Stewart.

"I have to say that Robby has more natural talent than any driver I've ever seen," says Stewart.

Is Robby as talented as you are?

"Yeah," says Stewart. "Maybe more."

The more time I spend with athletes, the more I appreciate candor. Ask a question and Stewart will answer it - except for one.

Why a monkey?

He pauses.

"You know, I don't know," he says.

I sure have missed talking to all my TSFP family, it has been weird not being able to share thoughts with you all. Tony is doing good and the big mess with kasey was really something we surely would have talked about.

Thanks karen, for doing this for us, I hope more of our TSFP family joins us here at the TSFP hotel!

Hey Everyone,

Missed all of you. It hasn't been the same lately without you to talk to. It was great seeing Tony win at the Glen. He's been doing well and I think he's warming up for the Chase.
Got to see him again in July at the Speedpark. Happened to be the day after my birthday, so it was a nice birthday present...Took pictures, but haven't finished the roll of film yet. He was in a really good mood. First he raced against some people who had won a radio contest and then he signed autographs. Looked like a big kid during the race, bumping people, spinning them out. And no one was afraid to do the same to him. Big smile on his face the whole time, even though with the lousy weather he was 45 minutes late. During the autograph session he was joking with everyone, posing for pictures, talking to anyone who stopped to talk. What a guy!!!

Adam, I hope by now you're doing much better.

Looking forward to talking to everyone again.

Glad you guys were able to find a temp solution to our mess. Karen was nice enough to do this for us. Thanks for offering help! :-)

I started a new job 2 weeks ago, but I've been out of the job all this week because I had my appendix removed on Monday evening. So, I want to relax a couple more days because there is still pain, but as soon as I get back to work and a few more paychecks, I'm going to have the old tsfp back online at a new host. A host I'll be paying to host the site on, so they'll be responsible for downtime, loss of data, etc... Free worked for awhile, but it just doesnt' pay off in the end..

Well I need to get going, I'll catch up to you all in a couple days.. Take care, and best wishes,
Adam

from JGR.com. I will keep an eye on these guys!

Driving the #20 Home Depot Chevrolet in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series at the .4-mile Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C., will be Aric Almirola. The 19-year-old Hispanic from Tampa, Fla., began racing go-karts when he was eight. After winning many races and local titles around Florida, Almirola took his talent to the national karting scene in 1998. He quickly made his presence known, qualifying on the pole for the World Karting Association Grand Nationals at Daytona Beach (Fla.) Municipal Stadium before finishing fourth in the season-ending point standings.

At 16, Almirola graduated to open-wheel modifieds - 2,750-pound race cars that put out over 700 horsepower. In 2000 he won the rookie of the year title in two separate modified divisions - Florida Modified and SARA (Southern Automobile Racing Association) Modified, while garnering his first career win in the Joslin Memorial 100 at Orlando (Fla.) Speedworld, beating the top drivers in Florida, many of whom were twice his age.

In March 2002, Almirola advanced from open-wheel modifieds to the Sunbelt Super Late Model Division, where he finished runner-up in the rookie of year standings. Almirola continued in that division in 2003, winning three poles at USA Speedway in Lakeland, Fla., two poles at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway and one pole at Bronson (Fla.) Speedway.

"I pride myself on being more than just a driver," said Almirola, who studied mechanical engineering at the University of Central Florida before moving to North Carolina. "Along with my crew, I've built every race car that I've ever driven from a bare chassis. Working on race cars is nothing new to me. As I've learned to drive in each class I've raced in, I've learned all the aspects of my race cars. This opportunity with Joe Gibbs Racing is awesome, and I plan on making the most of it."

"Home Depot is proud to sponsor Joe Gibbs Racing's diversity program and driver Aric Almirola," said Hugh Miskel, Director of Sales Promotion, The Home Depot. "Their know-how and commitment to succeed are qualities embodied everyday by Home Depot and its more than 300,000 associates. We've expanded our sponsorship with Joe Gibbs Racing in this endeavor because we strongly believe in the opportunities this program provides to minorities."

"Rockwell Automation is proud to support JGR's diversity program and its drivers, Aric Almirola and Chris Bristol," said Jay Lee, Director of Business Communication, Rockwell Automation Power Systems. "We were excited when Joe and J.D. told us about their plans last year, and we're pleased to be able to partner with JGR and Reggie White on such an important initiative. We believe it will pay dividends, both inside and outside the NASCAR community, for years to come."

___________________________________________________________
And......

Driving the #18 MBNA Chevrolet in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series at the .455-mile Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C., will be Chris Bristol. The 26-year-old African-American from Columbus, Ohio, began racing in 1998 as a student at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. There he was selected as the driver for the university's ICAR (InterCollegiate Association for Racing) Legends team. Bristol garnered two wins and delivered the school its only ICAR national championship in 1998. He won two more races in 1999 before graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Thanks to his solid performance in Legends cars, Bristol landed a ride in the Street Stock division of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series at Concord (N.C.) Motorsport Park. He finished the 1999 season in that division before moving to Limited Stock in 2000, where in nine starts he garnered one top-five and six top-10 finishes.

In 2001, Bristol started his own racing team and competed in the Thunder Roadster division as part of Lowe's Motor Speedway's Summer Shootout Series. He earned two heat race wins along with four top-five and seven top-10 finishes while taking fourth in the season-ending point standings.

The next steps for Bristol were starts in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series, where in late 2002 he drove for Bryant Motorsports at Pittsburgh's Motordome Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway. In 2003, Bristol competed at Caraway in the Late Model Super Truck division of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series, where on July 18 he won a pole and two races, as the track ran two 35-lap features. It marked the first time an African-American had ever won a pole or a race at Caraway. And on Aug. 15, Bristol added another pole and another win to his record at Caraway. When the season ended, he finished second in the championship point standings and garnered rookie of the year honors.

"Being able to drive a Late Model with the support of Joe Gibbs Racing at a race track I'm very familiar with is incredible," said Bristol, who works part-time as a motorsports development engineer for Roehrig Engineering. "A year ago, this opportunity didn't exist. But Joe Gibbs Racing stepped up in a big way, and I'm grateful to have the chance to pursue my dream."

"It's a privilege for MBNA to celebrate our sixth year of support of Joe Gibbs Racing by becoming a part of this effort," said K. David Elgena, Senior Executive Vice President and Director of MBNA Motorsports. "Joe, J.D., Reggie White and (Vice President, BGN Operations) Steve de Souza have done a terrific job scouting for talent and putting together young drivers and crew members who could become the stars of the future."

OK, let's get this out of the way now. Basically same rules apply here as did at TSFP.

* NO discussion of Tony's personal life (and we all know what that means).

* Keep it clean, offensive language will not be tolerated.

* Debate of a subject if fine but personal attacks will not be tolerated

* NO Driver bashing. I know there can be a fine line when we state our opinions but it's usually clear when someone crosses that line.

* If anyone has questions feel free to contact me and I'll do what I can to help. If you have suggestions let me know this is my first shot at something like this.

Hi, hope everyone finds there way over here. I talked to Adam and he's given his blessing to us starting this "Temp" site until he can work out the existing problems at our "home" the original TSFP.

I know this is a different enviorment than we're use to be remember it will be temporary and it's better then nothing. At this point I'm the "owner" of this site, but I've asked Adam to assist me as much as he can at this time.

I hope this works out for us in the meantime and I look forward to getting back to our usual discussions.
