The aim of Olympic Solidarity is to organise aid to National Olympic Committees recognised by the IOC, in particular those which have the greatest need of it

Olympic Scholarships for Athletes

What is an Olympic Scholarship?
Olympic Scholarships for Athletes is a programme run by Olympic Solidarity which offers financial and technical assistance for elite athletes training and attempting to qualify for the Olympic Games. Once awarded the scholarship is administered by the British Olympic Association.

Two training options are available:

Training Centre Option
Olympic Solidarity will assist certain scholarship holders to train in an international high level training centre with which Olympic Solidarity has a service agreement.

NOC Training Option
Olympic Solidarity will offer financial support (a fixed monthly sum) to enable the athlete to train in his/her own country or abroad.

An Olympic scholarship ensures that the holder can access:

Specialised training
High-level sports facilities
A coach specialised in their particular discipline
Assistance for regular medical and scientific monitoring
Full-board accommodation
Financial assistance to participate in the Olympic qualifying events

An Olympic scholarship remains conditional until the athlete has qualified for the Games. As soon as qualification is obtained, the scholarship is confirmed until the end of the Games.

How are candidates selected?
The British Olympic Association in consultation with the National Governing Bodies, select candidates to be put forward to Olympic Solidarity for consideration for an Olympic scholarship. Olympic Solidarity decides whether or not to award the Olympic Scholarship with assistance from the relevant International Federation.

Any international level athlete from an individual Olympic sport, who has reached a technical sporting standard sufficient for qualification for the Games can be a candidate. Priority will be given to athletes who do not have the possibility of receiving adequate training or participating in international competitions, owing to lack of infrastructure, access to high-level coaches or financial constraints (lack of commercial sponsors, government grants, prize money etc)
