Dear Nik, to an extent I agree with what you're saying, and I am certainly not having a go at the gymnasts at all, but the system under which they are trained. They can work as hard as they want and may get good results, but the problem is the federation does nothing to support the gymnasts and this is what hinders them and future generations. There is a lot of confidence put into this world class start stuff, but I really don't understand what it achieves. The best gymnasts we have ever had (Hannah McKibbin, Rebecca Jose and going back a bit Debbie southwick) were not successful thanks to this system, but because of their strong individual coaches (Savina Georgieva and Irina Viner). So what is the point in it? Should we just abandon it? I can tell you now that this group will not last in years to come, and will end after this season (btw, are they going to Baku?). As it did in 1999 and 2001. Of course, there is no shame in coming last, but the gymnasts have to aim for something. I dont remember the exact results in 1999 and 2001 but I think the British group was pretty much last in both cases. So what? We will be last again. No improvement. Don't worry gymnasts, it doesn't matter if you don't improve but as long as you are enjoying yourselves that's all that matters. This is not a proper approach to sport. Ok, I'm sorry if I offended someone, especially Nik. I admire your support and dedication as a Father and this is just my view. I have a lot of respect for gymnasts and I am certainly not knocking that they are doing. So please, do not tell me to 'put my claws' away or anything like that... I've been working in RG for a very very long time and have an educated opinion.
