Ridiculous to "let the audience have their say" - do you know how much it takes to understand the code? There are even some judges who dont know all of it - so how can the general public have a clue. What looks good to you isnt quite the same as completing moves for credit - Do you really analysis the rue starting point of a gymnasts pivot for example - bet you get it wrong! And how do ypu knw what's on each gymnasts sheet? Say the submit a double pivot but only perform a beautiful single? How can the audience know that she wouldnt get credit? Let the judges judge and you'll just have to go with the result!
