In reply to: JoeStag 's message, "Re: SHU on a roll ..." on 12:27:13pm 01/20/06 Fri,

I think that an annual Fairfield-SHU game promoted as a charity fund raiser with all parties involved, AHY, City of Bridgeport, Fairfield and SHU would be good for the local community. However, a win for SHU would be great for them but what about the effect of a loss to Fairfield and not just in the local media? Do we have anything to gain with the NEC or does just AHY and SHU have more to gain? Does Fairfield even want to open the door to SHU at AHY? This year we got almost 3000 for St. Joe, 3777 for PC and could do possibly another 3000+ for Iona and Manhattan if the University can get the students and alumni involved,(Winter Homecoming). Should our few home OOC games at AHY be targeted at the A10, Big East or hopefully but not likely HC, rather than SHU and the NEC? Personally, I would rather see a MAAC double header of Fairfield-Iona and Siena-Manhattan. A Jesuit four team tournament involving Fairfield and or St. Joe's, Fordham, Georgetown, HC, and BC would be better for the local alumni of those schools, our alumni and students and the local college basketball fans.

If SHU does get to the NCAA or really starts getting more than their usual 600-700 fans, you're right it should raise the bar and should wake up the University as to what is going on in their backyard but do we want to play them?

73,

I understand all the strategic thinking of why not to play SHU (even though I don't agree with them).

But the bottom line is if we think its important to connect to the Community, we have to play SHU. If we do not care of what the community thinks or wants, then we don't play them.
