In reply to: JoeStag 's message, "Sacred Heart and WICC 600 AM to Team Up for Men's Hoop Broadcasts" on 05:54:46pm 11/09/05 Wed,

As many of you know, I am a big SHU fan.
I think this is a great thing for the school.
Unfortunately for me, I won't be able to hear the games.
I will usually be at the game or if they are on a road trip, I usually find a game in the area.
I would just like to know how much the school does pay for each game to be broadcast?

Does WICC run women's and men's UCONN hoops? If so, I find it hard to believe that Sacred Heart has 16 dates that don't conflict with 54 UCONN games. In addition, did the release state whether or not all the broadcasts will be live, or will a percentage of the games be on tape delay? These are questions that must be answered before anyone makes a judgement as to whether FF let one get away.

Was just checking Sacred Heart's schedule and they actually have a TV game on Cable 12 (a road game at St. Francis, Pa.). How did this happen?

Looks like they do.. here is some info from Sacred Hearts website regarding the games:

Read the first quote... This guy has got the right idea.

Pioneers to have 16 games on commercial radio

FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart University Assistant Athletic Director for Communications, Gene Gumbs, announced that the Pioneer athletic department has signed an agreement with WICC 600 AM in Bridgeport to broadcast 16 men's basketball games during 2005-06 season.

"From the time I arrived here four years ago it has been my goal to get our basketball games on commercial radio," says Gumbs. "A commercial radio deal is a vital component of any Division I basketball program and an excellent compliment to our internet broadcasts."

WICC, which also carries the University of Connecticut men's and women's basketball games, will carry the 16 Pioneer games that don't conflict with the UConn schedule, starting with the SHU season opener at the University of Rhode Island on November 19. The WICC schedule also features games with Boston College, the University of Miami and Harvard.

Jeff Holtz, the voice of the pioneers for the last five seasons, will call the play by play. Gumbs will join Holtz as color analyst. The broadcasts will also include a complete post-game show with interviews, scores and statistics.

"We are very excited to have WICC as part of our team now," says SHU Director of Athletic Don Cook. "This gives us a chance to broaden our exposure regionally and give more people a chance to see how exciting Pioneer basketball can be."

Sacred Heart University is entering its seventh season of Division I play this year and are members of the Northeast Conference. Coach Bike has been at the helm for 27 years and has a 416-370 record. He guided the Pioneers to a Divison II National Championship in 1986.
