Subject: Scheduling by Dummies.... Sunday's Stamford Advocate

From Sunday's Stamford Advocate:

"Whoever put together Fairfield's 2005-2006 schedule must have been auditioning for a job as the Travelocity gnome. Friday night's game at Marist was the fifth leg of a six-game road stretch for the Stags - all against conference rivals. Fairfield will not return home until Friday when they welcome Manhattan to the Arena at Harbor Yard. With a trip to Buffalo for a game at Canisius next Sunday, the Stags are being asked to play seven of eight games on the road with the lone respite a home game against 6-1 Manhattan team. Boy, with friends like that. Let's just say we're seeing a new twist on a popular book series: Scheduling by Dummies... Don't look now, but Sacred Heart was ahead of Fairfield in Wednesday's Sagarin Ratings. The Pioneers were 202nd and the Stags were 215th. There's a snide remark there, but we'll let it slide."

Who actually does the scheduling and has the final say? Is it solely the AD or does TOT have much say in the matter? Does the MAAC have much input too?

Does anyone know?

I believe TOT has some say... for example, I heard in the past that TOT feels that two trips to Buffalo is his preference. He felt that it gives FU a better chance to win both games... I think I heard that on this board.

The MACC is responsible for all league games (Rich Ensor). TOT does have a little say in nonconference games but it is extremely limited. I have investigated other teams on the road games and FU wins hands down. No other league in the counrty has had six conference games on the road! Jim Boeheim was complaining about having 4 of his last 5 on the road in yesterday's NY Post. When in reality he played two road games , one home and then two away (they too were all conference games). O'Toole was even quoted recently in the paper questioning the "fairness" of six on the road games. Scheduling by dummies - look no further than the head of the MACC (Rich Ensor)!

Not for nothing but Fairfield plays in the MAAC, not the MACC (before we start assigning the dummy tag to folks)

Foxfan, So sorry about the typo. A bit uptight today? I guess this scheduling thing is really getting to you. It won't happen again ;)

I also think Fairfield submits unavailable dates to the MAAC because we have an arena that is booked with other events.

I do like away games when the students are on break in January, but 6 games is too long of a stretch. Worked out well this year, but it could have been a disaster.

The MAAC/Ensor is to blame for our six road games...no one else..No one in their right mind would agree to that type of scheduling...

Any one hear the real scoop as to why CJ Anderson of Manhattan is out?

What if Fairfield asked for few home games during winter break? With the arena reconfiguration, it makes sense to get as many students in attendance as possible.

I saw the schedule and assumed Fairfield had asked for a road stretch that would enable them maximum home games for when students were on campus....
