Subject: Thoughts on the Niagara game
In reply to: JoeStag 's message, "CT Post Game Day - Niagara Skinny" on 08:08:34am 01/12/06 Thu,

Niagara is 0-4 in the MAAC but they lost to St Peters at Home in OT, and lost to Siena by 1 at home..... so they easily could have been 2-2. However, they are 1-9 in their last 10 games, where we are 3-1 since Max and Mamadou.

Niagara is similar to Rider in their strengths as they have a strong frontcourt and a weaker backcourt, even though Lorenzo Miles (6-0) can light it up on occassion. He averages 14ppg and is deadly from three. In their frontcourt thaty have 4 players that weigh around 225, 3 of those players are 6-7 and one is 6-3....... so they are a physically stronger than Rider, but they don't have the length of Rider's 6-9 Jason Thomson.

Their top scorer is soph Charron Fisher (19ppg) who is 6-3, 225 and was a top player in Philly HS 2 years ago. He is more of a mid-range inside player. He is also a former great HS Football player. It would seem that Mamadou, Max and Carter are the best matchups agaisnt him.

I think the story with Niagara is that they have a lot of players that were very good supporting players the last few years, but that does not necessarily translate into players that can lead you to victory. They have talent, they just need to learn how to win, and thats the other aspect of this game is that they have to be hungry for a Win. Niagara is not known for their defense, but I would surprised if they did not come out hard and play inspired "D".

The stat to look at, is that we shoot 40% from 3 and they shoot 29%..... thats a big statistical edge. So a key is for us to play better perimeter "D" to keep them at their average. The other key is the frontcourt unit of Max-Mama-Middleton-Carter have to do what we did the other night and not give up any easy hoops.... and foul (hard) if we have to. We have to turn this into a shooting game.

All signs are pointing to a 1 point game.

With a win tonight, FU will be in a good position to battle for the Top 4 in the MAAC.

This game is another winnable game on this trip. Other winnable games include Marist and the one man show St. Peter's.

3M and Co. must shut down their weapons as we can't always rely on fouling to stop them.
