Subject: Scout.com - Andrew Beinert

Scout says that the Stags have offerred this 6-2 combo junior guard. Here are some details from the story

- Word of this 6-foot-2, 160-pound junior combo guard from Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, is getting out.

- "St. John's had offered him a scholarship before we started our season," said Chaminade assistant coach Bob Paul. "They've been out a couple of times to see him. They like him a lot. You've got Stony Brook, Hofstra, and Davidson- they've all offered. Boston U.- Dennis Wolff came in to see him at the Uniondale tournament, and he offered a scholarship. Fairfield- Coach O'Toole was out at our game (against St. John the Baptist), and they offered him.

- "N.C. State is hot on him, and South Carolina is interested. Those are two schools that really like him. He's got a lot of options out there."

- Others who have come out to evaluate Beinert include Villanova, Quinnipiac, American, Navy, and Columbia. Notre Dame, Providence, Seton Hall, and Holy Cross have all made initial contact.

- "He plays off the ball for us because of our personnel," said Paul. "But I think he's going to end up playing with the basketball in his hands as he goes on. In AAU, he's the point guard, and at IS8, and places like that. I think people are going to be pleased (with that aspect). His ballhandling is impeccable."

- Beinert can play either guard spot. He moves well without the ball, can create his own shot, and shoot off of the dribble. He has excellent vision and court savvy. He's gained some strength since the fall, but will still need to continue to put work in to that end.

- He's also got some swagger. And he'll need that for the next level.

- "He's completely and totally wide open," said Paul. "There are a lot of things to think about. He wants to go to a good academic school, because he's thinking about life after school, and he's also thinking about going somewhere where he can play. Those are the things he has in the back of his mind."

- Beinert is a strong student at one of the better Catholic high schools in the greater New York City area.

JS,

Is there a listing anywhere, or one that that can be pulled together, that identifies who Fairfield has offered? Through your reports it seems as if there more guard/small forward types than big forwards/centers.

There are more people in the world under 6'7'' than over. There are even less that can walk and chew gum at the same time.
