Subject: St Peter's game - Back from Jersey City

Great game to watch, and the Stags combine both a good offesnive and defe, sive performance in the same game.

Lots of stars in this game, but it was the inspired play of Geoff Middleton that was the real key. 6pts and 4rebs might not look like much, but Middleton was very agressive and was very physical on the defensive end. He was really getting his big body moving and getting his hands on everything from rebounds to shots. The stats say he did not have a block, but I cannot beleive that. If he can play like this everygame than we will have somethng special here. Play of the game was Sowell got an O-board and went straight up and Middleton cleanly had all ball, and it was call a jump ball.... I guess thats not a block.

Only a 6 man rotation for most of the game with Max and Middleton up front and 4 point guards rotating in the 3 backcourt position. Really cant tell who is the PG. But MVS, Herbie and Han great from the arc going 8-12.

Mamadou only 10 minutes but that was because Max and Middleton were playing so well. Max another warrior perfomance as he was giving it his all. He is still not 100 back as far as reaction time and some of his skills.... but we are much better with him in the line-up.

Todd struggled offensively with his shooting, but turned into a passer in the 2nd half. MVS is just getting better and has a lot of confidence in his shot... shooting it over outstretched hands. Have to find a way to get him more thatn 7 shots a game Herbie has another great shoooting game, but showed he can also create with his quickness. Han made some great passes, and was deadly from well beyond the arc.

The offense had some nice balance with Todd and Max attacking the hoop, and the others waiting at the arc to drain shots.

Bell played only 2 minutes and missed 1 shot, but I think his mninutes were low because Herbie, Han and MVS were really clicking. Carter had trouble hanging onto the ball, and did not play much. Oglesby was not with the team.... don't know why. Reedal still in street clothes.

Another key was Herbie's "D" on Clark. A few players played Clark, but Herbie had the most time because of his quickness. Herbie is going to be very good.

Overall a good defensive effort.

Were .500 in the MAAC, but I think their is a lot of improvement that can come from the frontcourt. If that happens, we can possible finish at a 9-9 in the MAAC, and get ourselves in position to challenge for a Top-4 seed.

I am very encouraged by today's performance. It took half a season of our b#&^hing about Geoff not getting minutes, but, it looks like he has finally established himself as our center and defensive presence. I really like the sound of Max and Geoff controlling the boards (with Mamadou in relief), Todd and Jon creating the offense, and MVS and Herbie burying the three pointers. I believe this is the semblance of an estabished rotation. Go Stags!

I think Mamadou and Bell are also part of the rotation. Mamadou was playing OK today but him and Max were having matchup problems against Both the 6-10 Bozovic and the 6-8 Sowell. Middleton was a roll, so they stayed with him. IMO, it all depends on matchups. I think there is still a lot of opportunity for improvment from Mamadou, Middleton and Max... and thats a good sign.

And its not like Bell hasn't been making shots, he is shooting 36% from the arc. But when you compare that to Herbie, MVS and Han who are almost all over 50%, you can see why Bell has lost the minutes. These 3-point percentges are excellent:

Herbie - 54%
MVS - 52%
Han - 48%

Really hated missing this one. When I saw the box score my reaction was TOT finally found a 7 man rotation fostering consistency--5 guys with high minutes and balance scoring. Did anyone see the piece on Manhattan on the Fox 5 sports show on Sunday night? We never seem to get this kind of press even when we are having a banner year. See 'ya all at Mulchahy.

I wonder if Middleton was motivated by playing close to home? Hope he can keep it up. If so, he should be getting 20+ minutes every night.

Middleton should be getting 20 minutes a game until he proves he doesn't deserve them. He's the only legitimate center this team has.
