Should we start our best offense players or defense players? Who are our best offense players and defense players? What are the stats for the season? Some players get by with more than others.

I think you have it right. Without Maxwell the starting five should be:

Middleton, Mamadou, MVS, TT, and JH. If MVS is eligible it should be Middleton, Maxwell, MVS, TT and JH.

But here's what I predict TOT will do:

Carter, Mamadou, MVS, TT and JH. TOT still does not appear to be ready to start Middleton over Carter.

I think Bell is still in the mix for significant minutes. I see TOT going 10 deep with Middleton, maxwell, MVS, TT, JH, Bell, Cater and Mamadou getting significant playing time, Allen getting some time and Reedal seeing a limited number of minutes a game.

Reindeer fan
I think you meant to say, if MOS is eligible, not MVS. I have had the same injury as MOS, and I think he won't be ready for at least another month or more. He looked like he was in a walking cast at the last game.

I meant to say if Maxwell is eligible he'll get the nod of Mamadou. I am not optimistic Marty will be back, but if he did return he would start over middleton.

No way Diahkate starts in his first game back in over a year. Remember how rusty Oglesby was? I think the starting five remains in tact and, if MAX is eligible, he will be the first one off the bench to spell Carter. I see Diahkate getting about 5 mins a game to start.

I think we are going to see either Maxwell or Mamadou in their if they are eligible. They might be rusty but they can't be worse in terms of interior defense and rebounding than any of our other options.

I do not think that Mamadou will start his first game back. Other mid-year transfers (Ajou and Spann) did not have very good 1st games. But we are under unusual circumstanes, so I do expect that Mamadou to get a good amount of minutes...... rotating with Middleton and Carter upfront.

While Middleton has not started, he has averaged 24mpg in 3 out of the last 4 games...... those are starter minutes. In those same games Carter has averaged 14mpg. IMO, the big difference with Mamadou is that I do not think we go with as much of the 4 guard line-up. I feel Middelton will get 25min, Mamadou 20min, and Carter 15 for Cal State.....assuming Max will not be back.

I do not expect Maxwell back until after the 1st of the year. Interesting that Marcus Williams of UCONN's suspension is now over, and can now practice, but will still be missing 3 more games until a Jan 6th game. So maybe there is something magical about not being eligible until the 1st of the year. Even though I remember Gai playing in late december after his soph year suspension.

I don't think MOS has any projected return date. Does anybody know if he has had an MRI??????

JCM, I agree, when Max and Mamadou are available, I think they will get most of the minutes as they offer a talent level and athleticism that we are missing today.

joe stag

comparing marcus williams and max in the same sentence
is not fair.
max did not steal and was not arrested .
if max does not return NOW it is a further injustice.

Maxwell is a good, solid MAAC player and he will help, but reading some of the posts the last few weeks I get the sense people are expecting him to be a savior. I don't think he's that kind of player. A help, yes. Not the kind of player that can put a team on his back, so don't set the bar too high.

Who are our most productive players per minute played offense--defense?
An extra rebound or two vs a foul with FFTs and loss of scoring--tough call who should be on the court min. wise
Still need solid play from our Srs down the stretch of conf. play?

Maxwell is not a savior. But if he could supply 7 or 8 rebounds a game, 53% shooting (last year he was 3rd in the Maac in this regard) and average 10+ points a game (something he did last year) the stags would take that. Maxwell should also provide some inside scoring to balance the stags offense, I think it would help the team a lot. We have lost three close games where he might have made the difference. More importantly, he gives the team depth in the middle something they lack today.

So while we are on the topic...we obviously need anything at this point to win a game. but would you put Max in there with todd and risk losing team chemistry???

I agree that Maxwell is not a savior, but he is an All-MAAC, and he gives us what we need up front as an inside scorer, a rebounder, and athletic player, and somesone who can "D" up his man especially in the MAAC. Maxwell is not the total answer, as we need 2 players (1 additional to Max) upfront that can be a player.

But Maxwell has been more than just solid player where we need to keep the expections low on him, especially if you look at some of his stats in just MAAC games. 13ppg, 6rpg and 56% shoooting in the MAAC. And look what he does in big games, especially when he is match-up with CJ Anderson 22pts, 7rebs..... 19pts, 9 rebs, and 17pts and 9rebs in the MAAC touney. Those type of numbers are not just a step-up from what we are getting this year, they are a double or triple step-up. He has also been a very good defender .

I don't want to put him on a pedestal, but, if we are talking MAAC Games, then the numbers speak for themselves. He is what he is..... and thats a former All MAAC player who the coaches predicted for 2nd team this year. I had the bar set high for him this year, and I hope he can still reach those goals.

Now there are question Marks:

- Max does get into foul trouble so we need more
- Max has stuggled against against the big OOC 6-8 opponents, but those games are past us
- Will there be a chemistry issue of him returning. I am assuming there wont be if TOT is letting him back.
- Is Max still in shape physically and mentally
- Was Max good because he had Gai next to him..... well he played some of his best ball when he played with Robbie Thomson 2 years ago.

We now need Mamadou to be a player, Middleton to continue to improve, or MOS make a quick recovery.

What is the deal with Nate Hawkins? I thought he was eligible to play this year.

The Stags have a habit of recruiting "injured players"
