We have allowed for an extension of the completion date to account for late starts. If students complete this early, they may work on other lessons in language skills instead of moving on to the next unit. If students have not completed Unit 1 by this week, please speak with your teacher to make any adjustments. Unit 2 – Writing to a Prompt 6 lessons + supplementary material This unit would begin the week of September 20th for all 4th grade students. Sequence: 9/20- 9/24 Lesson 1 and lesson 2 and an additional lesson on pre-writing will be supplied to parents. 9/27-10/1 Additional practice with pre-writing. Also parent workshop on narrative essays 10/4-10/22 Lesson 3 and additional practice in writing narrative essays. 10/25-11/12 Lesson 4, parent workshop on expository writing, additional practice in writing expository essays 11/15-11/19 Lessons 5 and 6 Unit 3 – Book Review 9 lessons To be completed between November 22 and December 17 Lessons will need to be pulled from Lesson Lists. Students should also begin working on some lessons from Test Readiness booklets. These will also need to be pulled from Lesson Lists. Unit 4 – Poetry 8 lessons To be completed between January 10 and January 24. The natural sequence is to do lessons 1 and 2 in the first week, then 3 lessons the following week and 3 lessons the last week. We would like all students to work on the poetry unit when they return from Winter Break. These lessons focus on word choice and language which are important skills to address and practice before the test. The Florida Writes Test is currently scheduled for February 8th. During the week before the test, we want students to review the different types of prompts and do one practice narrative prompt and one practice expository prompt. Unit 5 – Writing a Report 10 lessons This unit can be picked up any time after February. It is suggested to perhaps wait until after March when things slow down a bit. This way students can use the time to complete their Test Readiness lessons.
