It's been a long year. I know - it's only October. But I'm ready for a new beginning.

I've had one lupus flare after another, some of them pretty scary, since last December, and I am so sick of being sick I'm ready to kill the next doctor who tells me I need more tests. "Shoot the messenger" has become my favorite expression. I say it when some poor back-burnered soap character does an obligatory recap of the bullshit stories ABC has been spewing.

I say it when Andrew sits down to tell me he's going on tour - again. Bless his heart, he's doing so well, and I wish I could be happy for him, but all I can think is how am I going to work and take care of Samson and get time for a shower?

I scream it at the tv news folks.

I picture the offending talking heads exploding.

I clap my hand over my ears and sing, "La la lala, I can't HEAR you!"

I watch my language. Samson called some kid on the playground a dipshit. When Andrew was telling me about it, Somson chimed in with, "Mommy, that's YOUR word."

At least I didn't want to shoot the messenger.
