As fun as psycho Todd could be, I don't really miss that so much - so it doesn't really bother me that TSJ is TFC (too fucking CUTE) for that stuff. I want Todd to move forward. I want all the characters in Llanview to grow and learn. That's why I watch over time.

But I also have a tiny little heartache about Susan Haskell returning to a Howarth-less OLTL. The idea of Marty and Todd ending up together was odious, but Roger and Susan were dynamite. The two of them together put out a range of anger, hatred, open resentment, regret, hurt, sanctimonious forgiveness, genuine forgiveness, secret resentment, and pre-rape sexual tension and longing that was amazing to watch. And, while I did not know then and do not approve now of MM's gruesome intention to put these two together, I think it was Marty's willingness to forgive and Todd's willingness to grow up, that made their story interesting to me. It's the story of desire versus nature, of trying to be better than you are. And it's one of the oldest basic soap plots out there. It's even one of the bones of the T&B saga, but JMO, in that case, they've failed about 29 too many times and I don't even understand the desire anymore. But you get the picture.

Anyway, I think the performance dynamic between SH and RH was a function of right place, right time, both being pretty young, strong material, and a receptive audience. TSJ is awesome, but I think I'll still be missing RH a little, if only because it was so good back when it was good.
