When this whole Blark thing was looming over my soap opera, I was not among the optimists. I saw it as a sign of serious slippage for my girl - who, since Patrick Thornhack came to town, cannot help mooooooning over the biggest dicks in town (and I mean that figuratively, not anatomically). I don't get it. I really don't. At least half of these losers have been ugly as well as needledicked and inappropriate. There was Shampa and his bobbleheaded liplicking. Sam returned in his QuaSAMoto incarnation as hopelessly short and effeminate. Now Turtlehead Tim has been replaced by Droopy as Kevin, and, suddenly, Blair's h-h-h-hot for him? And feeling guilty about her widdle cousie-poo? Say it with me: Please.
The John Cage ref is on purpose. My fellow Ally watchers will remember John as short, quirky, and ultimately SEXY for being smart, cagy, good at what he does, and very aware of his limitations.
He was not some miscast superstud.
Which is what makes the Blair thing even harder to take. No offense to the actors, but my God, they don't even qualify as creepy crushes and they're playing straight as if they really were good-looking, tall enough, and age appropriate. Spare me, killers. Dan Gauthier is no Steve Buscemi.
And what it means for Blair, and me, is even worse. It means I've been wrong about my girl all along. The years and years of her being stuck with assholes who deep down don't think she's worth the gum under their desks isn't about the writers trying to prop whatever actor or agenda they're trying to push. It's about how they see this character. How all of them see her. Pathetic. More coyote than she-wolf, hanging off the bottom of the foodchain of love, drawn to these repulsive losers like a fly to a dungheap, and completely unable to learn from her mistakes.
I hope I'm wrong. I hope this is Blair's last dork. But, maybe that makes me as stupid as she is. At least in the minds of the people who write her.
