Subject: I couldn't agree more with you Feral..
In reply to: Feral 's message, "Hey Caro, I listened to one of Toronto's Planners talk about their Olympic bid" on 11:13:32 02/22/02 Fri

I was looking at the way they made the ski jump and the schematics of the whole things.

I watched in amazement at the physics parts of it, but then, when I saw the "before/after" big picture, I really was shocked at what all the blastings, at what the machinery did to that part of the mountain.

I understand that the Olympics will bring a lot of money, but isn't there a balance somewhere? That part of Nature will never be at that state anymore and I find that really sad. (for example: this isn't for housing purpose, it's for an event that might not even reoccur in SLC).

Maybe my views are wrong and maybe I should take off my pink tinted glasses. I just think that with all the technology today, there has to be a better way to accommodate both the events of the Olympics and a way to leave Nature undamaged when the "party" is over.

Thanks for sharing what those Planners said about that whole deal, (((((( Feral )))))).

...there was an old polluted bay which was used to mine brick, store oil near, and dump slaughterhouse waste into for 100 years. In a word.... EEWW!!!

The planning team cleaned up the mess. In the last 10 years the IOC has adopted Environmentalism as 1 of their 3 tenets and they have done a pretty amazing job on many fronts.

I have read hundreds of pages on this subject in the last month and could bore you for 100 myself... but I'll wait till next spring when my final thesis on the matter can really bore you to tears in all its glory.

lol
